Hi again :D I'm not really sure where to post this but I guess I can do it here. I kind of have a little problem. I have to make a new portfolio that has to be ready after 41 days. It's the portfolio I will send to Hyper Island, the school I have been dreaming to get in to. I want to put a flash header in to it even though I really don't like flash but I just need to show them I can handle flash even though I really can't :P So if there are anyone out there that could contact me and helping me with some small flash things...It shouldn't be that hard, just pretty basic stuff. Please contact me on MSN at toymachinen@hotmail.com Would be really nice if I could actually talk to someone as I try fixing this. To see a bit what I'm planning to do, I have made this: http://www.3jorn.com/stuff/pano_hej.swf There are 2 things I would want to get fixed here... 1: Get the movie to play onmouseOver. 2: The panorama is pretty big in width so I would want it to scroll when you put to mouse on the right / left side of the image... Without a scroll I mean. Would be really greatful for any respons. I'm getting a bit stressed at the deadline... |

I am not attempting to knock what you have achieved, rather pointing you to the obvious (well perhaps not all that...) truth. You could have achieved all you have done so far with an animated gif. I grant you that filesize could be an issue but that could have been negated with a static image and only partial animation of the actual bit that needed animating. It also strikes me as something that has been done waaaay before you got on the idea - Hillman Curtis has something so similiar on his site about 3-4yrs ago, but it was an idea that hit a chord with many industry bod's and may have stuck in their mind (I would not be surprised if that's where the idea came to you too). Not accusing you of ripping but of unconscious borrowing maybe - either that or just the fickle hand of re-emergence. I suppose my point is that no matter how you want to cut the cake, it's been done before and by a figure of some note in the field of Flash and compounded by I dont see how this piece of work benefits by using flash (although that is lesser of a concern). Either way I hope you achieve what you need to get into Hyper Island (sounds like a bad nightclub in Cricklewood [UK]) |

Hi there thehermit. Thanks for your responce. I know that this would be possible to fix as an animated gif but that's just the thing, I need to show flash work even tough I don't like it. Is it http://www.hillmancurtis.com you were talking about? Naah I have never seen this guy before now and 3 years ago...? But it would be nice to see what he did so that I could see if it's too similar. I have seen people holding some kind of cardboard in their hands but that's about it. And back to the flash thingy, well I don't have anything to show from my work that I can do anything in flash so this is like the last chance to show it. Well I guess there aren't really any flash nerds on this forum :( Well have to keep looking and reading those damn tutorials :P |

Well....I guess this is where i reveal my secret identity (though im not sure im a nerd.....hmmm). Anyway i'll help whatever way i can (through AIM, email....however). As to what you want to do: 1: Get the movie to play onmouseOver. This could be done a couple of ways. You could use a onClipEvent (if your entire animation is within a movie clip ) or make a button to cover the entire stage, set its alpha to 0 and give it an onMouseEvent. 2: The panorama is pretty big in width so I would want it to scroll when you put to mouse on the right / left side of the image... Without a scroll I mean. Here you would need to check the position of the mouse (X) and compare it to the edges of your stage (say your stage is 100px, so the left edge x=0 and the right x=100). If your mouse is greater than or equal to an edge (0 or 100) then you would move your image (right or left based on the x amount) a certain amout (a variable/your scroll speed) and loop it until the image reaches the edge. The second is a bit more complicated. You also need to calculate the distance between the edge of the stage....and the edges of your image. Before you can move the image, you need to know what distance to move it over. Thats the idea of it anyway. You can AIM me, or email me --> contact (at) shiftstate.com or however. |
