I know that if I go to my pc and make an illustrator file, I can then transfer it over to my mac and can work on it and view it no problem.

But, I can't start a file on my mac and transfer it to my pc.

I just need to transfer any kind of illustrator extension file over to my pc and do stuff with it.

I've searched download places for possible programs that might convert the file somehow.

Is there anything out there that would allow me to work with a mac illustrator file on my pc?

What should I do?

Have you tried adding an extension manually? or just opening it in Illustrator on your pc?

oh yeah.

I tried opening it in illustrator. It gives me a 'can't open, unknown file type'. message.

ok. I was able to save it as a png file on my mac and now I can at least view the image on my pc. Of course I can't edit it at all.

My whole reason for doing this, is that I have to get it printed as a poster. And the only place near me is kinkos. I want to set up the file to print the way I want it to, and kinkos has this ghey program they make you download that will convert any file type into a universal(kinkos) file type. Thus making the whole 'take it to kinko's and print it' process easier.

My illustrator file is complete on my mac. I just can't convert it unless it's on my pc. And I can't open it on my pc.

I can, however, save it as a png or other image file, and view it and set it up with kinkos.

Do any of you think it would be fine to just use the png file instead of the eps file? there are no fonts in the file.

The original file is letter size. And I want to print a poster like one you'd have on your wall.

did you try adding a .ai extension to the illustrator file? Right click the file and "open with" to open it in Illstrator if it doesn't have an extension or a "known file type". If you try to open it directly into an app of course it will not know what it is because macs lob off the extension and windows needs them to know what kind of file it is.

make sure you select the right file type, and don't just save the file as myfile.ai .. otherwise its just a psd with a .ai ending, and only your mac really knows whats happening.

He said he was working on Illustrator files, so I am assuming he is just saving them as native .ai files. But yeah, when you hit save initially (on your mac) it should ask you what file to save as, ie .eps? .ai? etc.... but if you do rename it on a pc with the wrong file extension, just rename it to the correct one. Doesn't alter the file at all.
