So I was trying to get rid of that awful clutter on my desktop, but found that I couldn't get rid of the network neighborhood icon, and couldn't change the name of the recycling bin. What's going on here?

i think that is all for safety. if you were to loose your recycle bin your computer would slowly burst of information unless you had a very large hard drive. its just set to locked in those settings so that you don't screw anything with your comp. because when you hit delete on a file its default command is to send to C:\Recycling Bin\ if you were to change that then your computer would probably pop up with that magical blue screen of death. or atleast screw up in some way.

Wanna' know a neat trick!!!? Right-click your desktop--> Properties-->Effects or Web (one or the other)--> And there is a checkbox that says "Hide Desktop Icons When Viewed as Web Page" Check that. If you have Active Desktop enabled, your desktop will be BLANK. I'm running Win2K now, and I don't have the option. But on Windows 98, you can do that. But I'm pretty sure that's where it's at. But if you don't want to get rid of your "My Computer" icon, then just make a shortcut for it in your "Quicklinks" bar. |

Right click on desktop, Click on Active Desktop, Make sure you have 'show web content' checked. Then Uncheck "show desktop icons" |
