Americans, sign this if you want to help support free speech. It may not do much, but it's just one way to stop the rampant censorship going on right now in congress. Don't let Government define decency.

You have no clue what you’re talking about. TV and Radio are becoming more and more monopolized.

As an example for Radio, In 1996, the Telecommunications Act raised the limits on the number of radio stations a company could own, spawning behemoth companies like Clear Channel and Infinity Broadcasting.

It’s more difficult to speak your mind than you think.

Or, he lives in a box. (you got enough light in there, big poppa?)

did you know that Madonna is under contract to do a tour with Clear Channel this summer? Remember her banned book, "SEX" - talk about a change of heart. Now, she is making money for companies who exhibit the same Nazi-esque behaviour. Her book is just as raunchy as any Howard Stern interview.

I agree that Clear Channel has the right to pull whatever they want on their stations, but when they own EVERYTHING, they lose whatever credibility they have as an independent entity. They are dictating popular culture, no way to argue that. In addition, they are hypocritical in their treatment of Stern's show, they have so many Stern ripoffs getting away with the same things, with no fine, or dismissals. Stern got the axe because he was pushing for getting George Bush out of office.

Did you also know that our Government recently passed legislation to allow Visa and MasterCard the ability to simply NOT PAY Adult webmasters? Yup. They're called Charge-backs. I don't understand them completely, but the biggest adult hosts are dropping like flies right now, people are simply calling the credit cards, and getting out of opt-in contracts - legal documentation - with NO QUESTIONS ASKED. Soon, you simply won't be able to make money off "indecent" content on the web. Thus, driving the industry underground, where nothing can be monitored, such as the Anti - Child Porn organizations, etc.

Whether or not Big Poppa thinks censorship is alive and well, it's ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL that we stop the Bush Administration from dictating personal taste.

GG, show me an example (and not a CBS news story) that proves GW is trying to dictate personal tastes.

Let me state how I feel on this issue:
I don't think the government has any right to decide what I listen to, but I do think they do have the right to say where I listen to it. The people who complain because Howard Stern was removed from ClearChannel BY ClearChannel aren't complaining because they have to go to HBO to watch "The Sopranos". I think shows like Stern and Mancow should be placed on satellite radio feeds only.

GraphicsGuy, do you think that shows like "Real Sex" should be played on ABC/NBC/CBS during daytime hours? If not, why? I don't see the difference between radio and television in this area. You sure as hell don't want your kids stumbling upon a show like that during the day, why would you want them to turn the radio to Howard Stern?

I haven't missed an episode of "The Sopranos" in 5 years, and I'm not mad at the government because I have to watch it on HBO.

Let me get back to ClearChannel. Wasn't it ClearChannel that boycotted the Dixie Chicks after the lead singers comments about GW? I don't doubt that the president of ClearChannel is a Republican (most smart big business owners are) so I wouldn't be suprised if Howard got the axe for more than the reasons of indecency, but you can bet your ass that was the main reason. You complain about ClearChannel and their influence, but you didn't mention CBS and their influence...why is that?...because CBS agrees with you that's why. The final decision in removing Stern's show was because of the usage of the "N" word. You know which one. If you really believe that anyone can say that in any public place, where anyone (including children can listen), especially radio, which I will again mention, is free, then you've got deeper things to worry about than whether or not your 1st Amendment rights are being stepped on.
