utopian: why the love ad? This is a forum mostly populated by guys, not a newspaper

age: 16
day job: full time student at the Bergen County Technical High School in Teterboro, NJ
night job: Have a Ph.D. in Professional Internet Pornography Inspection

Goal: Still somewhat floundering about as a lost soul as to what I will study in college, but without a doubt I will either double major or minor as a musician.

Eventually, though, I'll be a rock star. I've already started to live in a tour bus, and you guys can buy my autograph off of ebay.

I hate those kids who are 14-16 and bust into the thread thinking they know what the politics should do and everything, because most of the time they don't even make sense.

This is ignorant. Just becase you're 14 doesn't mean you're stupid. A lot of teenagers are very learned in today's events, and have mature opinions about things... tele comes to mind
Almost 45/Single/No kids/Full hetero/Full Head Of Hair/ Only a bit of a old-man belly/Wish I could find a great woman to hang with and build a relationship.

Like teaching kids cool science and music and art and language stuff, and act as an example to my friend's kids about how to get along well iwith all different kinds of people, when they feel funny asking their Mom's and Dad's about that stuff. I am the coolest "uncle" a kid could have. Not really sure if I want any kids of my own, though, because I'm kinda selfish with my time, and I can get annoyed with them a little too easily. Maybe I should spend a few hours a week being a Scout leader that Moms and Dads can actually trust.

High-end Real Estate print designer. Other freelance stuff as I find it; I'm picky because I can afford to be. Starting soon doing contract corporate Photoshop training. Kind of scared about it (because of stage fright), and working on writing a curriculum.

I'm the world's best mediocre guitar player, but I'm a great composer. I'm a jazz head, mostly, but there are elements from every genre (EVERY genre) of music that I like and incorporate into my listening and playing activities. I shoulda learned to play piano. I can play recording and PA gear like a Maestro, but I haven't had too many opportunities to do so since my old playing and band-producing days back in the late-80's to early 90's. I miss it.

Closet writer, working on quirky book full of stories like Jean Shepherd's stuff.

I can cook like a M'er F'er. Seriously. All kinds of stuff. When I cook for dates the women love me for this. Cooking for those you love is a fun thing to do, and it shows you care. Taking a date to a chain restaurant is early-on relationship idiocy. Olive Garden is OK after 6-months or more.

Is that enough for everyone's dossier?

;)
Hell U23,

with a sales pitch like that, i'll have that sex change and marry you :P

That is quite intriguing, if I weren't already married I'd be calling you! :D

Why the ::ahem::..."Love" ad?

So you young dinks will finally have enough info and stop asking! ;)

Actually, I posted so much info, because just a couple quick sentences aren't enough to describe and define who we are. I like hearing about the likes and dislikes and talents of my online friends. I figured I owed you the same courtesy. Even though this is a forum built on and dedicated to the refinement of its visitor's skills in computer graphics, there's way more to all of us than our shared appreciation of computers and software.

I realize a lot of you younger folks don't have a lot of life experience yet, and that's OK. How could you? You're young! But it's fun hearing about what you want to do and how you feel about where you're heading, and what you're discovering that you have passion for.

Passion is the thing, mates.

Explore all the possibilities available to you. Do what you love, and happiness follows. Good money, if you earn it for doing what you love will just be the frosting on your cake. Make and keep good friends.

I'm happy to be able to return here time and again and see you younger guys [EDIT: I mean that term as gender-neutral, in case it wasn't obvious. You gals(yeah, I know that sounds like an "old-man" word, but it's gonna come back into vogue, I'll bet on it ) speak up too!] progressing in your lives and gaining an ever-clearer focus on exactly what it is you have a passion for—whatever it is.

And trust me on the sunscreen.

Good point, utope. Lemme try again.

age: 16
day job: full time student at the Bergen County Technical High School in Teterboro, NJ
night job: Have a Ph.D. in Professional Internet Pornography Inspection

Goal: Still somewhat floundering about as a lost soul as to what I will study in college, but without a doubt I will either double major or minor as a musician.

Eventually, though, I'll be a rock star. I've already started to live in a tour bus, and you guys can buy my autograph off of ebay.

My first and foremost love in life is music, been playing piano for 10 years now (studying theory and shiz under a teacher) and the guitar for over 3 years now (by ear. pretty easy if you know another instrument). Took the violin for four years and wanted to set fire to it by the time I quit. Played a little trumpet - such a hardcore instrument. I definitely want to get back into that. I wanna score some sort of degree in music in college.

I love all sorts of music, and it would take forever to list em all, but I love rock (classic and SOME new), jazz, funk, soul, reggae, blues, latin, the list goes on.

Art: Second love in life. I first started drawing trucks when i was a wee lad. I started seriously drawing 4 years ago, been doing it ever since. Tried painting with watercolors. Never got good at it but damn is it fun (though frustrating). Picked up Photoshop one snowy winter day 3 years ago, and it transformed my life. Got me into webdesign, also something i've been doing since. Through that I started tinkering with other shiz - animation with flash, 3d stuff a little, and things like that.

I also enjoy writing and am seriously trying to start some sort of book or story. It's pretty fun to write.

I WANT to get into a lot of things. Number one on my list: Making Cartoons. :P

Favorite subject: Physics.

Secret dream number 2: Stand up comedian. Always writing jokes in my mind, and occasionally sharing them with friends. I've gotten the hang of making up good jokes.

Crap at cooking (sorry Utopia), but I'm a master of eating.

Constantly doing something, though usually whatever it is, it takes place in a chair.
Still, I'd like to think I'm interesting. :P

Confident in knowing that no matter what I do, or where I go, I will always be a sekzy bastard. Always.

...

ALWAYS.

how's that for the 411? :D

Following suit :

age: 17
day job: Full time student at Stuyvesant High School, NYC.
Night job: Professional homework-er, with an occasional burst of programming

goal: World domination through the means of mass-hypnosis/brain-washing; working on the hypnosis concept. Major in college would probably revolve around some mechanical/technical drawing, possibly in the interior design/architecture field, else photography (non-digital). Need to work on people-skills.

Love programming, drawing, billiards and fishing (primarily freshwater king salmon); would continue to take kendo if not for the 8 hour school day plus one hour transit each way (still practice it at home, but the lack of space and sparring partner really sucks). Never played an instrument, although learning how to play the violin and/or piano would be nice. Can semi-cook, do housework, fix electronics around ze house.

Would like to play paintball often, but living in a semi-urban setting hinders that possibility.

Enjoy illustrating stories that my friends write for their classes, most recent one was an alphabet book in Spanish (J is for Japan, H is for ze AH-64 Apache Helicopter and such ;]). Chemistry and astrophysics (writing a paper on this subject for Intel) are my true science loves.

I'm still on my lunch break from a Gas Station job I had in college, too. Almost forgot.

Hey michaelp, you work for mike?

On topic:

24 years old, freelance webdesigner. Going to do my civil crap service (what Bjorn's doing right now) starting this summer. It'll go on for a year.

About me (how the hell did we end up doing this? :D):
I live with my girlfriend, been together for four or five years I guess. Can barely pay the rent, not to mention the bills.
As a person, I'm a bit of a nut I think. I joke about everything, even deadly deceases -- but only if I know I'm not offending anyone of course. Only some people understand my humor, most don't I guess. I'm no utopian in the kitchen, even though I make some killer pasta sauce (yeah, but it's always the same). I'm a night person. My daily rhythm -- as of now -- is; to bed at 6am and up at 3-4pm. I like to stay up and drink some beer by the PC and take it easy. Well, unless I've got some work to do.

Other superinteresting facts about me;

I'm bald -- I shave my head. I started shaving my head because I was actually going bald, even if I didn't want to. I don't mind that though, as it's pretty nice to have a bald head....easy maintainance.
I've got panic disorder, self-diagnozed, but I know that's what I've got. It's a pain in the rectal area, but I'm coping. I'm afraid to death of doctors, especially dentists. And I can't stand spiders...I scream like a girl if I see one. Same goes for any bug with long legs.
I live for doing creative stuff -- designing stuff, drawing, doodling etc etc. I can't use any instrument but I do like music. My taste in music is really broad.

(ok, they aren't this interested in you, you haven't even posted in ages!)
They are!

After I'm done with this ¤"#***@ing civil service crap, I'm planning on opening my own design agency-kind of thingie. We'll see.

Have always been a visual artist , doodled as a kid, drawing political cartoons as a teenager, and eventually ventured into the mixed media world of acrylics, oils and pastels. I taught childrens summer art workshops at a local university in the early 90's and by the mid to latter 90's ventured into the world as designer guy. Yip laught all ya want, but it was fun. Painting murals on walls in both residential and commercial locations. Converting a mundane livingroom into a decor of delight pending the clients request. Certainly, got great exposure and experince.

Though I dropped out of University (during my last year -- eek) to gain the freedom of living on my own in the early 90's, but it wasn't til the '99 that I decided to return to school. You, guessed it, with all that art experince I decided to transfer the art to where the money is - Computer Programmer/Design at a local college. Though, the major requirement for entry was a University degree, I managed to convince them to let me in. (otherwise it would have been a 3 year program). When it came to web dev projects at school, while other students were working on there 'Simpsons' or 'Bedrock Cafe' websites (they wern't taking it seriously - seriously powerpoint all over the place - eek), the birth of my pet project 'PSDesigns' began. Coined after the street I live on Pleasant Street (hence the PS), but also started as an anagram for my quest to conquer Photoshop (PSD - its file format - not to be confused with LSD - thats another thread). Yip - I was ambitious, and glad I started that projected - its still spinning yarns today (heathrowe.com)

Graduated in the fall of '00 and have been employed on and off as principle web dev/designer for local companies. But enought with the layoffs, I say, so I have been freelance for the past 16 months and doing quite well. It was a drab at first but eventually built enough confidence to go get em with ease. I'm the type to talk to a stranger and find out what they do, and if the opportunity is there I've put my Business Card in there hand. Works for me.

Enough technical - I have two cats and a wonderful (supportive) wife of 8 years. We rent and live on a pleasant street, though we hope that will convert into a house this summer.
I'm not a fan of mainstream music, but more to the tune of the indie sound of such bands as Modest Mouse/Apples in Stereo/ Yo La Tango and much more. Can no longer stand Professional Sports (especially after last nights punch in Vancouver), im not affiliated with any religion ( thou the works of Franz Kaffka, Kahlil Gibran, Hermen Hesse and Martin Buber have influenced me greatly)...

and I hate winter........(though this year has been surprisingly mild for us)

til next time
