And why should it not be ClearChannel's decision what they play and do not play? I think if they want to take it off the air they should be able to, I frankly don't understand why you are patronizing them for that.
It is their right. That is why I said in my first post the the government has not done anything yet. But we are "heading" towards problems if this continues.
To Pank, I don't know any kid (don't know many, but don't know any) that don't have a clock-radio in their room. When I was in 2nd grade, I would be cleaning my room and would listen to the radio whilst doing it. I do think yes, the parents should bear responsibility for what their kids are exposed to, but the radio is far too public of a forum for some of the content that is there. Unfortunately Stern, Mancow, and Bob & Tom are all morning shows, where it's not as easy to shield your children from. Adult television shows are played at night, why shouldn't radio be the same?
See I thought just the opposite ;) A second grader should be in school in the morning while those shows are on. And in the summer I'm guessing they are home with somebody. If the shows were on at night it would be easier (I think) to sneak a listen. And we both hear Mancow say 10 times a show if you have your kids listening you are a bad parent. Although being number 1 in Chicago I'm sure it's tongue in cheek because even 12-24 year olds is a rating factor... But at least he say's it.

Actually the first piece that you quoted was aimed at GraphicsGuy, I did understand what you were saying.

And your right, night time wouldn't be a good time to air radio programs of adult nature either. And I don't have kids, and can't listen anyway since I'm out in boonies, so it doesn't really matter to me when they are on. What will concern me is when I do have kids and if I do live in a more metropolitan area. I'm not saying we should censor the DJs or radio stations, and I do understand that parents should simply not allow their children to listen, but unfortunately this isn't a perfect world, but I guess I don't ultimately feel that the government should step in and draw a line either. Unfortunately there is no way to block certain stations from a radio dial like there is with a TV, but I think adult stations should be moved over to a premium radio service (XM or Sirius). Then at least it is not freely available to children to 'browse into'.

It's like the idea .sex domains. Move porn from .com addresses, and the issue goes away. Don't tell me it's not that simple because it is. I'm a nearly daily porn connoisseur, and I don't think it's a bad idea. I don't think it's infringing on free speech. I think it's a great way to keep the innocent eyes away from the evil evil world of porn. And it will save schools money since they won't have to purchase expensive firewalls and spend time every day blocking new porn sites.

haven't gone through all of the replies here, but i'll voice my own opinion.

I listened to stern when I lived in a city that carried him. I think he's funny as hell and he's right on alot of points.

Whether the FCC is forcing Clear Channel to pull his show or not isn't really the issue. The issue is that the government has become far too accustomed to the intrusion of our rights as citizens.

This all can be linked to the 9/11 attacks in New York and Washington. Instead of finding ways to protect us from someone who wants to attack us, congress has taken it upon themselves to protect us from ourselves.

I am a citizen of the United States. I pay my taxes religiously. I vote. Yet, I have absolutly no say in what happens in The Senate, Congress or The White House. The candidates are all full of **** and intentionally mislead Joe Voter to get their vote. Once in office, they are free to do what they want until the next election. At that point, they run again and because I live in the south, the same guys get re-elected.

It's time for a revolution. Unfortunatly, any talk of revolution is quickly put down by the FBI and other Government organizations as insane militants who dont pay they're taxes. Meanwhile, there is no law in the Constitution that states a citizen is required to pay Federal taxes. Those who think like me are generally written off as gun-totting lunatics with a lust for blood. But we're just like you except for the fact that we are fed up with the way things have been going for the past 50 years.

The right to bear arms isnt to protect your home from someone breaking in to steal your vcr. The right to bear arms is to make revolution possible.

"The oppressed should rebel, and they will continue to rebel and raise disturbance until their civil rights are fully restored to them and all partial distinctions, exclusions and incapacitations are removed." --Thomas Jefferson: Notes on Religion, 1776. Papers 1:548

Let's all start a Photoshop Church so that we don't have to pay taxes.

Well, you're right, they actually can pull anything off the air that they want, it's their company. It gets a little sticky when it comes to the basis behind pulling Stern from the airwaves in 6 major markets. That's what's unconstitutional. It's really no different than pulling him because he's jewish, or because he has a black co-host. The fact is, he has a right to free speech- decent or otherwise, and they have a right to run their company how they want to. The term 'decent' is what's gonna make this one ugly mess.

Clear Channel was run under the radar, for the most part. What I mean is, many people don't realize they're looking at, listening and buying Clear Channel products - until now. I really wouldn't be too surprised to see an anti-trust lawsuit in their future. They own a great deal of EVERYTHING. They're no more of a monopoly than the telephone companies in the 80's that were split up. They kicked up a little dust, brought a great deal of attention to themselves, and I really hope it backfires on the bastards.
We actully agree 100% on something.
Pulls up a bar stool and waits for Spectra

Also I've "heard" some reports (I'll have to do some actual research)
But, the condensed version is that countries that are not all wound up and afraid of being PC and afraid of sex actually have "much" less sexual crimes. Mainly because they are not all worked up about it.
someone is starting to smell the coffee...
goodmorning. =)
