Is there a program to use to make fonts? Or should I just use illustrator? I have to make a font by Thursday. I can either do it by hand or by computer. I'd rather do it by computer. So what should I use? |

Fontographer But you may as well do it by hand first, rather then wasting time messing around with an unfamiliar program. Plus it will cost you a bundle to buy it. |

I'd rather do it in a new program than by hand. I'd be spending 8 hours a day if I were doing it by hand. I'm not a masochist how hard can it be? is there some preview version? possibly a different program? thanks for the help. |

If you have a short time span for completion of the font, then I would seriously consider distilling the process down somewhat. Think in terms of geometric shapes and repeated elements, guidelines will be your friend. I would also stick to a futuristic fontface and steer clear of traditional serif faces.

Or you could just use www.fontifier.com and call it a version of comic sans.

Illustrator can't generate a real font file, per se. You can only create a graphic depiction of a set of characters. Just so we're all clear on that. |
Illustrator can't generate a real font file, per se. You can only create a graphic depiction of a set of characters. Just so we're all clear on that.
I don't need a font per say, as in one that has different points. I just need one that I can enlarge a bit or shrink a bit, and then print out. So I'm doing it in illustrator, even thought it's a bit of a pain in the neck. I have thought about what shapes repeat. Right now I have three basic shapes. A thick, a thin, and a curve, that make out an 'O'. From there, I'll just make changes as needed using those shapes to make the rest of the letters. It's supposed to be a very basic font, so no serifs are involved. thanks for all the help |
