you people with the 1, 3 or 4 Mbit dl rates....are you at home or at work with those speeds ?

if you're at home...consider yourself lucky.

I'm at home, and I know that most others are also. 3Mbit cable is pretty much the standard in the US now. You'd be pretty hard-pressed to find a company offering any less than download speeds of 3Mb and upload of 256Kb. Out here in the middle of the US (Iowa) DSL is pretty nonexistent, since we're so spread out.

Home, Cable is very common in these areas (city), so we have very good ISP's. I am on "Cox" right now... *begins to snicker at the name*

*is jealous*
man...here in Germany there are practically no providers that i know of that offer cable or any other medium with those speeds at a reasonable price...you'd have to be a company to afford it. The providers here are doing the "Intel" thing.....slowly bringing faster and faster connection speeds to the market to suck more money out of the consumers and sell more of their products and services in volume. If you don't know what i mean with the "intel" thing, just go out any buy a brand new Intel or AMD CPU and look at the manufacturing date that is printed on the chip...the 2.5-3GHz chips on the market now were manufactured in 1998 and 1999....yeah..imagine what they have in storage now....

What he's saying is that the companies have had the advanced technology for years but choose to release them slowly step by step to make more money off of them.
