There two factors tath explain this...

First : In many case a font is not a single font but a small collection of style liek Roman (default) Bold Italic ans Wide Black...so wath you belive to be a single font is in fact a few fonts... I have a font with 32 style!!!

Second : Maybe you just download all the fonts you can get your hands on a never really use them... then sudently you realize than you have way to much... if this is the case I would suggest to limit you font collection...

It's a combination of the two, i assume. I certainly need to delete some of these.

If you have a PC, get Adobe Type Manager right away. And if you have a Mac, I suggest Font Reserve Broswer. There is no reason to delete fonts you paid for, or free font you have found. Simply purchase a font manager to keep things organized. It's the smart way to go.

you dont need that many fonts, 50 good fonts is way better than 1000 crap ones, and it takes forever to load photoshop and windows for that matter.

The Font Thing is good and free, but it doesn't really help when youre in Photoshop and you have 13xx fonts in your drop-down box. And I, for one, hate it when a font comes with "font1 normal" and "font1 bold" and "font1 italic" all as different fonts. I have one font, as someone said, with like 13 styles. Its a pain in the ass. Adobe Type Manager probably costs something (?) but it probably works better with your Adobe programs (?) than the POS I posted :D

I think you should keep your fonts. But only keep them if you get some type of type managing software that lets you activate and deactivate your fonts that you want to use and don’t want to use.

If you can manage your fonts that way, you shouldn’t have a problem with too many fonts slowing down your computer.

If you can’t get your hands on some type of font managing software, you should at least back up the fonts you take off your computer.

Everyone seems to be against having so many fonts but I personally find it quite useful to have a fast library but only if I can manage them so they don’t cause problems.

I know if I had access to Adobes Font Folio I wouldn’t stick with just 50 or 100 of the fonts. I’d like to utilize all of them. So maybe a way to organize them is the way to go.

well in the olden days the true typographers had at the most 5 typefaces. Technology is corrupting us!
