ok, this was a bit shocking to me. Almost 50% of the users on the net are at 800x600 ? AND 16 bit colors ?!..c'mon man...who are these people ? (This image may take up to 2 seconds to load if you're on a 56K6 modem, 3 if you're on a 28k and if your internet connection involves putting a phone headset on a set of acoustic couplers, please hang up the phone NOW) http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp |

Used to be a whole lot worse than that... You have to realize the majority of the computers in the world are basically glorified typewriters at large corporations that are only used for excel, word, and outlook. Those types of people don't need or know how to change to higher resolutions. Those same corporate computers are also likely old. Then you have all the old school computers, libraries, government machines, etc. Then after that you have the majority of computer consumers who don't know the first thing about computers and just leave the resolution set at what it was from the factory... Not that surprising when you consider all of that. |

Yah unfortunately you have to design a lot of web design stuff to cater to those who aren’t that tech savvy and who don’t play with their computers much. It's like you have to always assume they’ll be viewing it at 800 by 600 and surfing the net with a 56k modem yadda yadda. Blah. |

I know there are alot of computers with 800*600 and 16 bit colors beacuse I have to try to fix these god damn computer everyday... My opinion about designing for 800*600 / 1024*768... This is really starting to bug me. I don't really understand why every site has to be fixed in 800*600. I think that okey I do agree with big company sites should be able to be seen without scrolling at 800*600. But it has to become wider if you change the resolution to bigger. But the rest...I mean peoples portfolios and stuff...I see more and more really good and famous designers who are skipping the idea with 800*600 and I think it's good. Because 800*600 looks good on 800*600 and good on 1024*768 but if you are getting bigger resolution than that it starting to look pretty crap if it's not one of those sites done in the width and hight in %. I know that this is the only right way to make it. But that is so much work and imo it's not necessary for sites that's not huge company sites. So it's pretty much a no win situation. And most of those people who are still using 800*600 are those old schools and libraries and stuff like that. Well and the purpose for those computers is to search for information on google. ...and they can still see the site...they just have to scroll the page. I don't know whats worse...a site so small that you can't really see anything on it or having to scroll the page... Okey maybe this post wasn't that necessary but blah... Just getting a bit annoyed at the whole it must be 800*600 things all the time. |

well - I dunno - considering 80% of the internet is porn and that 99.9% of porn sites are at 800/600 - haha - I guess porn sets the standard lol

Do people with 1280 x 1024 or 1600 x 1200 res or higher really maximize the browser window at that resolution? That seems like an awful waste of screen space to me. I have 1024 x 758 on my 12" powerbook, and I never ever have safari maximized even at that resolution. It's always just a window on the screen, probably about 800x600 actually... I can't imagine the purpose of browsing a web site full screen at 1600 x 1200... Just open four different web sites and title them instead... or have a bunch of other programs open...

lol @ mihai. Deker - I could never do that. I hate not maximixed windows, okey I'm only on 1024*768. But I always maximize everything because I hate when I go around with my mouse and click on the sites and I miss and it goes to some other window. That's why I really hate popup sites. Before when I came to a popup window the first thing I did was press Alt + F4...but now more and more of these are coming up. I still don't understand why...what is it better for? I might understand images and things like that coming up in small popups but the whole site...naah...Don't like it. And those full screen sites...AAH! Why god whyyy? Your windows tool bar goes away and you have to work with Shift + Tab... Nope not for me Alt + F4 there too. And now that I've already started...sites with music with flash... Hate them too...I never surf on one site at a time so when I open up my about 15 windows and 9 of them have music coming...yup that makes one good song all together. So usually instead of trying to find all the stop music buttons that are hidden somewhere on the page I usually just close all the sites and not going back. All these things I think are more annoying than sites that aren't built for 800*600 with 16 but colors :P |

I'm at 1152x864 (I'm the only person I know that uses that res), 32bit colors, and maximize everything (well ... maybe not things like AIM that are made to not take up space). I'm that 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% on that chart labeled "Insane/Different." |
