So I just ordered DSL (sorry to all the 56kers....i will miss you!) and my service will be turned on friday :D . So what happens next u ask?? Well my cable company, who i was going to sign up with until i got a good deal on dsl a few days ago, sent me a big flyer. Never guess what the flyer said?? how bout now......?? No? Ok...it said "We have just upgraded your area to our new 3mb speed, double your current speed for the same monthly price. Enjoy.

SON OF A BITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously.....just kick me in the balls. It would hurt less. 2 days before my new service......and i get that flyer. Someone hates me! As u can tell....im slightly irratated lol. Though its not all bad.......dsl is a massive improvement. 6 years in 56k land is enough.

Just thought id share that story.....

Can't you just cancel the DSL before they install it and get cable instead? I prefer cable... Have had both several times. I don't remember what 56k is like! Until I go to my in-laws anyway, who still use AOL. Ugh.

Congrats on getting broadband of some sort though!

try shelling out the dough for a single processor 1.8 G5, then - six weeks later, a dual 1.8 comes out for $100 more.

or,

I got a 15GB iPod for my bday, and the very next month the price drops about $100, and they announce a 20GB model for the same price.

or,

you buy OSX and find out you need $200 in RAM to run it on your old G3

or...

you get the point. Happens to everyone, welcome to technology life.

sorry for your stress, though. I feel your pain.

or how about this, I shell out 1700 for the g3 ibook 900mhz then a month later the g4 comes out, that makes me want to kick my self in the balls.

Sounds like you have Comcast Cable.

I had been reading rumors about the speed bump, but Comcast corporate was playing this all very close to the vest. As much as I looked around, I couldn't find any official information on when they'd be rolling out increased speed, and in which areas.

A few weeks ago I happened to wander into the Forums on Comccast.net, and read a little more about it, and one guy who seemed pretty knowledgeable about what Comcast was doing offered a link to a good set of Speed Report websites.

I went and ran a series of tests over the next few days.

Sure enough, my speed bumped up, from a previous cap of about 1.8 MEGAbits/sec. The tests I ran consistently showed I was getting, on average, just a wee bit over 3.0 Mb/sec.

Still, no official word from Comcast regarding the speed boost...no mailers, no commercials, no postcards...nothinng. But this added speed, along with my new eMac has made my surfing lickety-split here in Amishland USA.

I say bail on the DSL and go cable.

The same thing happened in my area with Roadrunner. Supposedly you get a constant 1.5m transfer with DSL vs 3m every once in a while with cable but I haven't had any complaints with RR cable.

I've only known one person with DSL who was really happy with it... and he had SDSL (same up and down). I tried DSL once, and the boneheads couldn't get it to stay up and running... tried to get it stable for 3 months. Finally gave up and went with cable. Cancel the DSL. If for any CRAZY reason you're not happy with the 3Mbps cable, you can cancel and go back to DSL.

Yup. Thats them alright....sneaky bastards.

Also i never realized you lived over in amishland lol. Thats too funny. I cant tell ya how many times ive gotten lost in corn fields over there. The roads dont go anywhere. They just lead to more corn fields.

Cancel the DSL

The "deal" im getting is dsl will be $20 cheaper a month...so thats why I bailed on cable. The sucky part is I signed a 1 yr contract with a termination fee of $200 lol (i didnt want to..i dont like contracts....parents said 'who cares')

I dont mind though. Anything is a welcome addition to 56k. Even if my dsl didnt work and i got like 20k a second......its still 4x better than my modem lol.

Until I go to my in-laws anyway, who still use AOL. Ugh.

yeah...i get to cancel my AOL account. That will be the greatest day of my life!
