hey Pganguly... how do ya REALLY feel???

I think the new iPod is priced that way to clear out Apple's stock of 15GB iPods, then they'll announce something new or drop the new mini pod price down to earth. Think about it, anyone who does their homework will get the 15Gig model for $50 more. Apple knows that.

BTW, I have a 15GB iPod, and it's the perfect size. I love it. Who the hell needs 15,000 songs in their pocket? A radio station? please. Save your $599, IMO. On the lower end, I filled up 4GB's in less than a week of having my 15GB iPod, seems like lots of maintenance for $250, what a pain in the a$$.

iPod mini.

Smaller. Lighter. Longer battery life.

No hard drive to get jostled—an possibly damaged beyond repair—if you're an actively rowdy type.

Not aimed at kids with no money.

Utopian, are you sure the mini's are flash based? The tech specs page makes it look like they are hard drive based as well.. I haven't looked into it too deeply though. http://www.apple.com/ipod/specs.html

You have a good point. Even with a fat pipe, my connection crapped out intermittanly throughout the QT-streamed keynote. Early in the iPod mini presentation Steve was talking about Flash storage; when I got my connection back I heard him talking about 4GBs of storage in the Mini. I may have just made an assumptive leap, there.

Its a harddrive with no ram in it, so there will be no preloading into flash like current ones.

and the battery life isnt even longer. I have a feeling apple will figure out how crappy the sales are and the price will drop below 200.

Ok, the iPods are mediocre at best, iLife's cool, now, WHERE ARE THE G5 IMACS?!

Come on, let's see something really cool, like the 20th anniversary macintosh, a G5 powerbook, a 50 gig iPod, I mean something really worth getting psyched about. The Mini iPod was an inevitability, the iLife upgrades are nice, and reasonably priced, but I want to see something REALLY cool, as I'm sure Apple is capable of. It's thought that they may hold off on the 20th annniversary Mac until the Super Bowl, in honor of their memorable 1984 commercial.

Either way, Macworld's not over yet. Let's hope something really cool comes out soon.

Um...I don't really how that makes sense here, but...I guess someone is eyeing Apple as a portrait of corporate evil, judging from the popularity of one of their products, which is I think, pretty um...not funny.
