Oh man...

This friend of mine and I have a personal vendetta against anyone who actually says 'lol'.

He was an exchange student in the US, from germany, and the last thing we joked about before he went back was 'lol'. Of course, immediately upon returning home, as he was telling his family funny stories from his trip, his sister said 'lol', a bunch of times. Finally he had to be like "What the hell is wrong with you?", only in german, obviously. When he told me that on IM, the only thing I could say was 'lol'.

How do you pronounce it when you say it out loud? "l-o-l" or "loll"?

Yah that would make the person seem like an Ass. You try and be funny and instead of laughing they say l o l. I think that would call for a kick in the nuts.

I make it a point to NEVER type LOL unless something I've read online actually elicits a real, spontaneous, audible laugh.

If I don't in fact laugh, I'll either say 'that's funny' or type out 'ha ha ha ha ha'.

Why? lol is a lot faster and easier to type than "ha ha ha ha" is it really such a big deal?
