To make a unnecessarily long story short, I got an early Christmas present. A box of craft knives.

I don't know what half of them are used for, but I'd like to learn and get into some crafts. Maybe some that involve cutting. That foamcore stuff that I saw here was pretty cool. How is that done? I could fit it with my digital art, too, if I can find a good way to print out stuff nicely. What kind of glue do you use? Where can I buy foamcore? How much does it cost? Anything else I should be cutting? :D

I’d use different types of cardboard. Foam cord (in my opinion) sucks when you have to cut out small and complicated shapes. It dents easily, its hard to cut curves and so on. I took a 3d design class and they suggested different types of cardboard. You can get ultra thin, thick and it’s sturdy and easier to cut. It’s also not as expensive.

If you have your heart set on foam core they do have cutters that you can buy to make super straight lines. I’ve seen them in many art supplies stores.

Isn't foam core lighter than cardboard? And it comes in different colors? I can imagine it denting easily, though. Except I would think that it would be harder to cut cardboard than foam core. Maybe not, though. The only cardboard I've cut is corrugated from boxes.

I guess I'll need to get some cardboard/foam core, glue (any special kind?), and a little mat for cutting on. Either that or I'll just do it on the kitchen table.

My mom doesn't know I'm playing with knives, actually. I'm thinking about 'giving' the set to my family for Christmas. And then taking them back and using them. Then I don't have to buy anything. (/me is cheap) :D

dont use foamcore, its cheezy and can dent. Id recommend bristol or cresent board to mount your work.

i have a set just like that and i use it on scale models. i build a lot of my own parts and stuff like that. the models are great because they help keep my paint skills up.

never used foam core or anything like that except once for a watercolor (which sucked by the way). yea just be careful. i've cut myself a lot and it's no fun.

I like to use a hot glue gun. You just have to be careful with it. You don't want any glue strings or any globs of glue.
