Here it is.

I've been working photoshop and can do a decent job in getting a layout and all. So friends have seen my work and stuff and have referred me to friends and co-workers and I've been getting contacted to do pages here and there.

Some ask for newsletters others for web banners and some for just headers or buttons. So here's the deal.

When I look at sites like vbskinz and I see all the work pank puts into his designs, my jaw drops when I read the price, cuz I would be charging lots more.

Now if you sell graphics in bulk, is it easier to sell for a low price? And if you actually custom make a graphic for one person imparticular, do you sell it for more?

Let's say someone wants a header and a nav bar. What would be a reasonable cost for a custom made header for a specific company?

Now if you have a site where they can purchase it, and it's not specifically made for them, but others can buy it as well, what would be a reasonable cost?

Any information you all can offer on pricing would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Cheers!

A bit offtopic I guess, but;

Who'd buy "a header" from you, and buy the "content layout" from someone else and the "footer" from a third dude? Maybe I'm not getting you right, but it seems a bit weird to me.
When I make graphics for people, I do a full website layout, sometimes with the whole identity too.

It sounds like you're interested in making templates, or at least some minor detailed graphic elemets that people can embed into their own layouts? That sounds like a very small crack at business to say the least...maybe I'm wrong.

As for the pricing bit, I'm horrible at setting prices so I can't help you there, no matter what we're talking about. :D

Paavo thanks for your response. You know, maybe I shoulda been a bit more detailed. Those that are asking me to do these graphics are mostly people who have seen my work on my auctions.

I hold online auctions and make my own auction set ups to sell. So when friends, who also sell on auctions see this, they want some made or friends of theirs ask, and I'm referred. Then what happens from there is that once they see it, they ask for more stuff or start a web site.

But it's not templates I'm looking to make, it's actually advertisement layouts I guess you could call it. There are many auctioneers who try to use some pretty weak graphic layouts that are one dimensional, and when they see mine, they really like them. So they ask, and I just wanted to know what a good price would be.

It helps make a little on the side aside from the other stuff I sell. But since I'm still learning Photoshop for the web, it's helping me build my skills. But I have made complete layouts for websites.

Here, let me show you what I'm talking about:

Check this out here . It's one of my auctions.

And check this out here.

That first link is my stuff. So while I'm working to get better, others see my graphics, they email me to see how much I would charge to do one for them. This helps me build my skills and learn more without trying to go all pro at once.

So there are people who don't need the full website, they just want a header to represent them and some buttons to other sites or a contact button for those who want to contact them.

Does that clear it up a bit more? Hopefully it does, because it is alot of work to be creative and crank out the work here and there, and I just don't want to sell myself short, and I don't want people who come back in the future for a full blown site to say, "Hey, you charged me less last time."

But my focus is on pricing, not so much the other stuff because I could just get estimates from web designers. But thanks for your response. And it's amazing how many people really want graphics to enhance auction sales...it's a market that is wide open.

Cheers!
