Okey I just got Illustrator 10 becuase I'm getting really interested in makeing more print work and that's hard to do with photoshop.
All the DPI and stuff like that.
Haven't had the time to install it yet but I can't wait to get home and try it.
My newbie questions about vector graphics.

Well now that vector graphics don't work with pixels.
Do I still have to put in some settings as in photoshop, DPI?
Just don't want to start makeing something and then someone tells me that I'm doing it all wrong.
Because you should be able to change the size on the image without anything happening with the quality...that's the whole idea with vector graphics, right?

I have been using freehand before but I hated the shortcuts to it.
So that's why I went with an Adobe product, is there much different with the shortcuts from photoshop and illustrator?

And finally does anyone have a good tips/hints to give me before I start...something that really made you crazy when you tried to get the hang of it?

Thanks

It doesn't matter how much you resize a vector graphic it always looks the same because a shape in Illustrator is actually a mathematical equation and not just a bunch of filled in pixels.

ahh the everchanging shortcuts

well - the little hand that moves your canvas is still the spacebar when you're in a hurry, V brings up the point tool - but there's some doozies also

resize it's not Ctrl+T - it's "E"
and a lot of other crappy changes...but I don't want to spoil your fun:D

I don't know about illustrator 10 though - I'm not that rich - I got version 9. Maybe they made the shortcuts more like PS but somehow I doubt it... I think the guys at adobe get a sadistic pleasure from moving around the shortcuts from version to version - just to drive the poor users crazy.

as for learning - first thing I did was check the tuts at adobe - they only cover the basics but they're pointing you in the right direction...

and as Mr. Pervert Michaelp said - it's the peen tool that drives you crazy - if you know how to handle it from PS - you're halfway there. No need to set up the document in any special way - I mean there must be a lot of stuff but I'm just beginning myself so I don't know much The pen tool should keep you in bussiness for a long while I think

I have to learn Illustrator.

Is it possible to convert a PS image into an Illustrator image?

I have a wallpaper I started and it's really simple so far, so would Illustrator convert the shapes into vector format?

if there was one good app that converted raster to vector the maker would be as rich as Bill

there's lots of plugins, apps and so on that will turn out a working trace of a raster image but they don't even come close to a decent shave...

I use Corel Trace quite a bit at work to trace bitmaps. But it rarely works very well, and normally makes the paths really really complex when they should be very simple.

You can use Flash to trace bitmaps too...
First problem with illustrator...
Okey why won't I see my layers?
Window -> layers = no
Pressed F7 like a million times = no, no.
Any ideas anyone?

Have you checked to see if the tabs clicked? Like is the action or links tab clicked instead?
