Is it just me or is it just so damn hard to come up with designs for hosting websites? I mean they all end up looking so damn templateish...

um.......im going to take one for the team before this turns ugly. If your refferring to existing designs......well most ARE templates. Hosts sell services......not designs. If your talking about making designs for hosts...then your on your own with that one.

The subject is interesting though. Over on WHT (webhostingtalk.com) there have been a few threads (more than a few actually) about hosting designs and there affect on the customer. I know I take the design into consideration. I don't put much weight on it....but if the site is totally crap i associate that with the services they provide... like if they dont care about the look of their company..then they may not care about the customers or be serious in the hosting biz. Just my $.02

I am trying to come up with a unique design but there is like a stereotype of what hosting designs should look like and I keep thinking about it..

Well, it has to appeal to the customer, and really, al the hosting sites do look 'templateish', but they also look clean and nice... at least all the ones I've seen... actually wait, all the good ones I've seen... I've seen some pretty crappy ones too..

I don’t know if they’re too many roads you can go down when you make a website for a hosting site. If you do any searches for a web host you’ll see that there’s just a billion out there and everyone is offering pretty much the same thing. The only stuff that seems to vary is the cost, and how much of a good thing the company is willing to offer. I don’t think a difference in style is as important as how you display your company profile and service information. I think if you stick with a clean professional layout that, that would work better than a site with some abstract non traditional design.
