I'm looking for some free professional-looking fonts for web or advertising. I've found myself using Arial and Verdana a lot, and its making all of my designs look the same. Or are those the kind of fonts that I have to pay for? I'm looking for mostly sans-serif fonts, but some nice serif fonts would be nice to have, too. "Professional" would be the word to describe them. I'm kinda thinking that those are the ones that are worked on for weeks and then cost $60.00. Am I right? Or can someone link me to some nice free ones?

Check in the recourses section. There’s a lot of links in there that you can visit.

From what I know of, all the professional fonts are copyrighted and you generally have to pay. I’ve seen adobe fonts from $25.

1001freefonts.com 1001fonts.com have a nice variety of free fonts submitted by people. I don't know if it's legal or not to take them and use them in advertising or anything that you can make money off of. I could be wrong though.

Some sites I am not sure about but I think have professional fonts for $$$:
www.myfonts.com
http://www.iamcal.com/misc/fonts/
www.blambot.com <---comic fonts
www.bertholdtypes.com <---very professional typefoundry with sexy fonts for $$$
And there is a font out there called Futura Modern or something similar that I saw. It looks really good but I dont know who made it.
