He just wants specs. I'm surprised nobodies suggested a Mac that way there’s nothing for him to figure out. Just go to the store and get da box.

What's that supposed to mean? I don't know about you, but when I think gaming the last thing that comes to mind is a Mac. Less than half of PC games ever make it to the Mac and good Mac-only games are few and far between. |

I got nothing against macs, and know nothing about them but I hear they are usually a lot more expensive than PC's.

That’s assuming that’s all he wants to do with his machine. From his other threads (which I know you’ve posted in) he seems pretty interested in design. So I just brought up that nobody mentioned Macs. Maybe he should look into both? I’m a pc person myself. He doesn’t seem to know much about computer hardware so maybe a Mac might be the way to go? It’s just a suggestion. If he wants a computer strictly for gaming, I sure didn’t get that from his post. I read it as he wanted something that was capable. |

Assuming that your budget is $1000. Gaming rig. Prices from newegg, mostly. Asus A7N8X-X motherboard - $74 AMD AthlonXP 2500+ Barton w/ cooling - $90 1024MB Crucial PC2700 - $180 Geforce FX 5900U - $240 (I haven't been following the nvidia video cards lately, but this should be fine) Ok. Those are the basics. Now comes the stuff that needs your contribution. Case I don't know what you have now, so I don't know if you will be able to reuse your current case. If you can't use your current case, then there are plenty of nice cases for less than $50. Power Supply Depends on case. If the case doesn't come with one, it will cost around $40-60. Cooling CPU cooling is covered with the retail CPU. However, case cooling is not. It depends on the case mentioned above. Drives I don't know what you have now, if I did, I could tell you what you can/should/will reuse and what you won't. Basically, you'll need one hard drive ($50-100), and one CDROM ($25-$70). Burners, DVD players are optional. Floppy also. OS If you have a Windows CD laying around then no problem. If not, then it's basically either WindowsXP PRO or HOME. PRO costs around $140 and HOME is around $90... I think. You can go Linux, but you probably won't like that. Other Keyboard, mouse, speakers, monitor, etc. I'm sure you have all that. |
