I want a handheld but I don't know what to get.

I'm not even sure if what I want even exhists.

I want something like the ipod, an mp3 player with a hard drive, that will also let me read books off it.

I could get a regular handheld for the book function that also plays mp3s but there's not enough room on it to have a ton of mp3s.

so does what I want exhist?

You can listen to over 5,000 Audio books on the iPod... but not read them... You can save text files on it, but I wouldn't want to read a whole book on it...

Audio books are for people who can't read...or children I tried one once... but there was a chick's voice on it that made me horny heh heh - and it was a sci fi.
I like to read ... it makes you imagine things - when you listen to a book it's just not the same.... some of the events are described in a way I would not have imagined.... or liked....

Well that ogo thing is cool but it looks king of big, get a pocket pc i personally have a XDA and it rock the new one is the best thing ever, It runs window 2003 (much better than 2002) , I watch movies, play mp3, play games browse the net (the real one not the one the phones get), hi speed by the way, and a phone/camara all in one. Storage internal is not so good but you have a sd (I/O) card i have a 512 mb card and it stores more mp3 than i need and you can even go as hi as 3gigs not in a stamp size card, what else do u need!!!! You can add all kind of new hardware to that card slot.

if you a high tech kind of guy and dont mind spending 700+ dollars get the best of the best pocket pc , wich is the ipaq ( theres different models) but the top of the model even has biogeneric security, it reads your fingerprint to logg on to your device and thats just the start.

But that ogo *PDA* has so much more power and potential, but i dont think is that practical unless you are a super duper tech user, but as a device it has as much power as a pc. I think that ogo is gona be great for companies with bussness aplication needs but i dont see everyday people jumping on that any time soon.

PC World reviewed something called the "Tungsten V" (I don't know who makes it, and I don't know if it's "V"), but it got the highest rating this year for PDA's. The Sony Clie is also good.

All Tungstens are made by Palm, which just changed their name to PalmOne. Why? I have no idea. I've had a Palm V and a Vx also the M500. There okay, and served the purpose, they're not as jazzed up as the ipaqs that dreamdesign mentions, but it all depends on what you want.

I do recommend you research them real good though. You don't wanna get stuck with something less than what you expected.

I have a Sony Clie PEG-SJ30, which is their cheapest color model. Thus far, I'm pretty underwhelmed. As far as memory, it's ok for addresses and memos and a few games, and has a memory stick expansion slot, but the actual unit is, I think, very poorly constructed. There's screw's coming out of it all around the outside of the case. I think that there's now one holding the case together. It's been kinda slow lately, but the one upside to sony is all the little extras it comes with, including clie paint, which is like having photoshop in your pocket (kinda)

Their higher end handhelds are more durable. I've known a few people who've had them.

The tungsten v's are nice, definitely. Also, if you're looking into Pocket PC's, you may want to consider some of Toshiba's products. When I was looking for mine, I found one of theirs that matched the iPaq exactly for about $125 less. Also, I've heard good things overall about Toshiba overall recently.

thanks for all the suggestions. I think, in terms of priority, mp3 playback is most important to me. So if I end up getting anything, it'll be an ipod I guess. I wont be getting audio books for it though I don't have a good enough attention span to listen to a book. Reading it's different cause I'm being active.
