Has anyone here successfully paid for college with design? Or atleast part of it?

I know it depends on the person, but about how much a year can one earn designing while going to college full-time?

Somebody probably has. You'd have to have your **** together to do it, and a person who is capable of designing his way through college probably scored out the wazz on the SAT/ACT's, so he probably got some financial aid.

definitely depends on the individual, but i don't see why i wouldn't be possible. if you could pull a few design jobs a month that you could do at 10-15 hrs a shot i don't see why you couldn't pull in around $1000-1500 a month. getting the client base to do that with and having the steady job would be the challenging part.

Definitely not happening on my end.

Best bet is to just take out loans. I mean, it's just an inevitable part of going to college. It's just better you realize that sooner than later.

Then, any design jobs you do get, are just gravy, and you can either save that, or have a nice wad of cash in your pocket. Option 2 is, just get a grunt job at a pizza place or something. Of course, you'd hate it, but you'd have cash to work with.

back when I was in college "internet" was a foreign word in romania so was "webdesign" = but my programmer - a great guy - he's paying for some of the college with what I'm paying him so I guess it's possible you just have to stay away from the computer hardware stores a few days after receiving money - I know it's hard but....

I showed my stuff to the school I applied and they said most likely I can get a TA which is pretty nice and cut the money I have to pay in half.

Yeah, scholarships are always great, but almost impossibe to find for webdesign, being that the market's SATURATED with webdesigners.

It may behoove you to look into other art/multimedia/computer animation classes, that will give you a degree that will allow you to do something else besides webdesign, in the even that it becomes difficult to find employment after graduation.

Yeah, let's be honest with oursleves here, everyone and their mom is a webdesigner nowadays. Now clearly, some are better/more creative than others, but still, when there's so many, it become far more difficult to separate yourself out. And, this also means that, like with any other product or service, if there's more of something, people will pay less for it.

It is because if this that I've decided to study industrial design, because there's a plethora of things you can do with it, and I'll have an extremely varied portfolio when I'm done, which will let me get a job in whatever field I want/need, given the job market in 4 years.

Design is paying for school after the fact...does that count?? :D

I worked in a restaurant to put myself through school. I recomend this work because it's easy and you make tips. Therefore you have a higher wage then most kids while still working a job that is relatively easy.

i think that if your work can tell an employer that u know what u're doing and u'll make them money then u don't have to much to worry about. i just got my first web design job in may and now i'm making twice of what i did from retail for 4 years. but i still have a year of school left. when i do get out i'm looking to double what i make right now. just have to know how to set a price for yourself. of course i'll have a small lone to pay off but it's a bit tough when my schooling totals to $55,000 after 4 years.
