WTF?? I booted up the ol' XP Professional this afternoon, only to have an error message pop up and my system go totally grayscale. A few things are still in color, like the minimize, maximize and close buttons on the top right. Movies play in color, but all graphics and text other than that is black, while, or a thousand shades of grey. I already did system restore and scanned for viruses and accomplished nothing. Anybody got any ideas.

is it still working? I mean did you post this on your computer? is everything greyscale - like PS or other apps? or just the windows interface? that is weird - usually it does this when you shut it down - maybe it's caught in shutdown limbo or something lol |

First thing --> go into your control panel and uninstall your current video card driver. Reboot, download a new one (if you are using NVidia drivers - download not the latest, but the most current that is supported by microsoft. (they are WHQL Certified) Reinstall the driver. That would be my first idea. If that doesnt work, see if your video card comapny has any utility that checks to see if the card is good. |

Weird. That is the first I've heard of it doing that. How did you find that out?

I deactivated adobe gamma loader (don't know how it was on in the first place) and then recalibrated the gamma settings within photoshop.

Yup. Corrupted monitor profile. Had I discovered this thread earlier I could've saved you some blood-pressure points. Whenever you see any links to color management information, go read, and bookmark them. They will prove useful, either in your future, or in the future of someone who might be having the same troubles, and to whom you can pass these links. ::Gotta go check the "Resources" thread to see if there are good Color Management links there:: |
