Ever since I first heard of the .tk domains I wondered if those islands really exist...then I got to asking myself - ok - so we have 3 atols with a combined population of 1500 (facts taken from the .tk site) the villagers are fishermen and fruit gatherers - there's no power plant on any of the islands - no networks - no computers - is this for real? - Or did someone somewhere took advantage of the poor guys and makes a nice dollar with their domain names? I tried a bit of research but I couldn't find pics of the islands.... every tourist's directory boasts the same facts - population, name of the islands (atols) and a few towns. After a lot of work I found -
this
whoa - they are real - lol - but I am still unconvinced as to wether the populace knows someone somewhere is making money off the .tk domains....

The site you visited is kinda old, and its information outdated...

The population there now has internet cafe, financed with the money made from the .tv domain. They also use their to modernise their contry... so the population actually benefited from thei unique domin name extension... and it help them to get a better acces to the world...

This is kinda new to them... so thecnologie there so it will still take some time for the population to get acostumed to this...

how do you know all that? - Google only pointed me to a bunch of .tk resellers....do you know of a site with recent pics? I really liked those atol pics... and you have to admit the actual info on the islands is pretty sparse....
