Man this is so frustrating. I would really like to have a nice site up by Monday so that I can impress the person who runs yearbook and I can get on the committee. I was going to make a redesign but it turned out to suck. But then I spent a lot of time coding it anyways because I convinced myself it was going to work. But after I made a whole ****ing site out if it I figured out that it was no good. Then I tried to go back to my old design but that got ****ed up somewhere and it doesn't work anymore. Too many bugs and ****.

This may not sound too frustrating to all of you but its even more so for me because the computer that I have Photoshop and Dreamweaver on is not the same one that I have internet on. I have to take all my files and pictures and code from one to the other - back and forth. So when I get some php code from somewhere I have to save it as a text file transfer it to my other computer, work it into my site, transfer it back, upload it to my site, and test it out. Two out of three times it doesn't work and I have to do the whole ****ing process over again. The two are on different resolutions, too, so things look great on 1240 and then crap on 1028.

It also doesn't help that I now am in the process of a transistion between two hosts. The new one I have is really nice but I can't just forget about the other one because I have to redirect from that one to my new one. And there's a lot of files on that one that I have to think about before I delete. Maybe I should just delete everything from the internet and start completely new. Just like I don't have a site now and start completely fresh, not caring that I dont have a site and working on it little by little as I have time.

But that would mean that I dont have a site for Monday to show the yearbook people that I can use Photoshop and know what I'm doing on the computer. But it probably isnt neccessary - I just really want to do it and theyre only picking like 5 people and there are a lot of (really computer illiterate) people signing up. But the leaders cant tell that from a piece of paper with names on it.

As you can tell it is really stressing me out. A lot of the time when Im stressed, though, I do something like delete everything (like I mentioned before). I think at the time (right now) that that will help but then it turns out to be a big mistake.

How do you guys keep everything straight? I get so jealous when I see your huge sites with all that content and that looks great. Seems like its perfect. Maybe my sites are getting too big for plain HTML and I need to learn some code though and use databases. What do you think? I also need to read some web design tutorials and get my priorities straight. Sometimes I feel like really graphic sites (huge things of grunge) and sometimes I feel like minimalistic but never the same thing more than once. So everything I do has to be completed in one sitting so as to not be influenced by another mood. Then I upload it and it looks terrible to me. Plus its on a lower resolution so its all big and noobish. So I feel I have to update and the whole thing happens again. arrrrrgggghh

I'm sure you probably have a much better time than me, though, in some respects since you have Internet, FTP, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, PHP, and all your files on a nice fast computer. Sucks to be me I guess. Im really organized with all my files, too, but when there are so many psd files and jpgs and folders with partial sites and text files between two computers it really sucks.

No need for anyone really to reply - especially if you're going to say something like "then get a new computer" or "get internet on the other one" or "yeah sucks to be you". If I could do these things then I definately would have. Replies that would be nice would be things that you guys do to keep things straight on your PC and on the web. How do you keep from getting stressed out? Maybe it just comes with experience, and that what Im going through is good for me. I dunno.

I still havent decided what Im going to do tonight - relax and watch a movie and forget about it or stress myself out even more by trying to fool around with a half-ass site with bugs that probably wont look very good anyways.

Yeah sorry if this is confusing but Im not thinking too clearly since Im confused and stressed. I'm sure you guys understand as everyone probably feels like this sometimes...

Well, if it makes you feel better, I have a huge deadline to make tomorow (Sunday), but Paavo keeps disturbing me. :p I'm stressed out completely right now, but it's self-induced, so I'm just gonna grind it out and complete what I have to do.

Thats my advice to you. Either stick it out and start figuring it all out, or just step away for awhile. Now I won't belittle the importance of things in highschool, but just think of me, out in the real world, with my neck firmly in the chopping block. :D

Welcome to graphic designhood (kinda like adulthood..but graphical...im not pulling off this lame phrase too well am i??)

Anyway first. DONT DELETE ANYTHING. Put files aside until u are sure u dont want them.

2nd :

"So when I get some php code from somewhere I have to save it as a text file transfer it to my other computer, work it into my site, transfer it back, upload it to my site, and test it out"

......... go get easyphp...phptriad or another php/server package (free). That way u can install it on your computer........fire up the server and go to http://localhost (or 127.0.0.1 [no internet needed] ) to test your site/php scripts. Its about 10mb download.....and an easy easy install!! That will solve some of the problems. U could also get a freeware web server to test your site (www.webattack.com www.download.com) (php wont work unless u installed/config. it). There are other options than uploading everything :-)

3rd......go take a freezing cold shower!! For whatever reason...a cold shower will de-angrify you (apek's "is this a word" thing has rubbed off on me lol). Or just go do something else.

4th....if it makes you feel better we are all stressed out. (including me.....and 02. just ask 02 how many times he has redesigned his site.....you'll $#!% yourself when u hear the number lol)

First off...
Well now that I'm in the army, I would love to have some kind of problem to figure out...Just something that I can do infront of the computer...guess how much it sucks to be in the forest for 2 weeks and not even being able to touch a keyboard!?

Second...
If you try to hard to do something...it will never work...
At least not for me...I always work for a couple of hours and then I'm getting mad at something or I can't get anything good up, I usually goes out for a coffee or something...
Just to calm myself down...even tho when I drink my coffee I can't stop thinking of the problem I have with the computer...
But I usually come up with something on my "computer brake" that actually will help me when I continue my work...

Third...
There will always be people who are better than yourself...
I just try not to think that I have to be as good as that guy...
Everytime you do something you get better and you can't just jump to being perfect without practicing...
So even though you make something you don't like or ain't going to use I still think you have learnt something from it.

Wish you the best luck...

I am a total mess - I have no organizatorial (is that a word?) talents whatsoever. My files are spread all over the HD and I suck at keeping things tidy. So what I do I put extremely long and descriptive names on my files and then search for them - For instance I have files that are called "Layout for tony_upper part and red titles.psd" I use the search feature a lot. I keep all my psd files - never erased a thing so far. I just kept buying larger and larger hard drives. Oh and once a year I backup on dvds... I go with my hard drive to a shop - they do it in front of you. My ugliest nightmare is a fire that will burn my dvds and harddrive. I keep them in separate rooms lol.
As for the stres thing..... heck we all have deadlines and bad clients and wifes that need attention and we have to put on suits when we'd rather go in jeans and......and....and.....

You just have to find the thing that will calm you down (without putting you in jail) and do it when you're mad

Yeah guys it actually does make me feel better to know that you guys have the same problems, too. And probably also to a greater extent. Thanks for taking the time to read that novel of a post and reply. That night I forgot about the computer and watched "Holes". Pretty good movie, but the book was way better.

rodder454 - I got EasyPHP and it works quite well, although when I told the guys on IRC at phpfreaks.com they got mad (not really but they strongly disapproved) at me. Said I should set up my own dev server or some sh*t like that. Screw that. (Just in case anyone was wondering - they're terrible at answering questions and being patient with newbies.)

The one thing that I realized was that I was centering too much on the web sites and coding, etc. that I wasn't actually doing any art. And that is what I really love to do, so no wonder I was frustrated. I put together a little "temporary portfolio site" to hold things over for a while ( http://trhaynes.commscentral.net:8000 ). Shouldn't need any updating, so thats good. I can make some decent artwork, take some nice pictures, learn some code on the site maybe, and just relax for a while.

Then, sometime in the future, when I get some great inspiration. I can start up on the web stuff again. Hopefully then I'll be able to handle it to the extent it needs to be handled (clear as mud).

mihai - The way you name files really is a good idea. I have a folder with a couple hundred .psd files in them named stuff like "bars" and "layout1" and "circles". Those are terrible names. I should do what you do.

everyone else - Thanks so much. You guys really help me out here at teamphotoshop.

That's the best damn thing I've heard in a while. Just never forget. When you're frustrated, throw a brick at a wall, or something. or take it out on your friends! Maybe kick the dog. With, you know, steel-toe boots, or something. Venting is always a fun way to blow steam out of your system.
