Glad to be back home I still think things are being worked on so if you see a bug or something let me know. Here is the deal. Last Tues. the site starting maxing out DB connections (no biggie it happens every so often). The reason it happens is because this site and this board get very very busy. Some days very very very busy ;) When that happens this site starts pulling all the other sites on the shared server down. I contacted (mt) to let them know about the DB connections and while on the phone with them I was browsing my control panel for the site. I noticed that only halfway through the month we were already over 40 gig of bandwidth used. This account is set up for 40. So we were on a record breaking month. I asked the support guy if that number was correct and he said yes He got the DB connections toned down. A few hours pass. The same thing happens... I call Demian at (mt). He is the CEO/President and I have been dealing with him since day 1. I asked him if this site was causing any problems for any other sites. He said it was putting a pretty big strain on the server I was on and other peoples sites were beginning to show the effects of this. At the second "I" told him to kill the site. Pull the plug, whatever he could do. All of you really need to understand that (mt) has been with this site a loooooong way. They are my real only sponsor and the last thing I would ever do is cause them a headache. The site being shut down was "my" decision, not theirs... After talking a bit with Demian and his support staff they decided the only thing we could do was to move to one of their application servers. These servers are built to handle the load a site like this pulls down. I told them that sounded great. He asked me again if I really wanted them to shut down the site until this was complete. And I told them absolutely. There was not enough time to put up any advanced warning to let anybody know. It all kind of happened pretty quickly. (mt) had no plans of shutting the site down. And, while talking with Demian this move had been scheduled already for the first part of next year anyway. So at that point I told him to just leave the site down until they could migrate over to the new server. I was told at that time it could take up to a week or maybe more because this was not scheduled. Honestly I really didn't mind. I new the site would be back up and run faster then ever. So that is where we are. Back home on a new smokin' server. I just wanted to clear the air. I read a few posts at a few places about how somebody couldn't believe (mt) would just shut me down, and other stuff like that. I just felt I needed to clear up this whole matter and let you all know the entire story. Bottom line is (mt) has been with me all the way and I really do mean it when I say this site would not exist without them ;) They are extremely good to me. That is why I didn't mind the site being down for a week... So sit back and enjoy the new server. I have to figure out how this puppy works now ;) |
