I'm one of those poor student types that still uses yahoo mail in lieu of my own hosting (Changing soon, hopefully). But, have any of you who stilll use yahoo noticed that there's waaaay more spam than there used to be?

I mean, they offer filters and stuff, but still, there's way more spam than there should be.

I was discussing this matter with a few friends, some of whom use AOL (GAH! Throw your money down a hole!) or some other paid service, have noticed no increase in the amount of crap that finds its way into there mailbox. The yahoo, hotmail, and other free users however, have noticed an increase

I guess this is because, pay e-mail services get their revenue from customers. Free services, get their revenue from advertisers. Assumably, for the right price, they would just let spam through. I dunno. Maybe this is what's happening. It;s like those huge add banners that you got from free ISP's, back in the day (about 2 years ago) they have to make their money somehow.

The only reason it's becoming an annoyance (aside from trhe fact that it's spam) is the fact that more and more of it is ending up in my regular inbox, while rather frequently now, blanket messages sent from people that I actually know, to people in their address book (8+ people, usually not much more) seem to end up in my bulk mail box, which I usually just empty without reading.

Also, with all these nasty viruses, and worms and so on going around, and though I do primarily use a mac, at school, I commonly use their PC's, and I'd just like to know that I'm not the one responsible for bringing our network to a screeching halt.

Plus, it's just an annoyance.

Anyway, lemme know if I just caught some extra spam this month, or if this is an actual trend with yahoo mail.

Hopefully, I'll soon have hosting of my own. That'll show those punks.

*edit* I thought I knew how to talk...

Yeah, I had a hotmail account like that. It was about 3 years old, and every time I checked it, it would be SO FULL of spam that it would max my storage limit. That's like, 4 mb just of spam. So, I got my yahoo account, told everyone who needed to know, and just abandoned the hotmail one.

But now, I dunno. It's not quite as bad as the hotmail one was, but this is exactly how it started.

I use hotmail and I don't have much of a problem. I only get about 3 spam emails a day, wich isn't too bad considering that I know people that will get over 200 if they don't check their mail everyday.
