Well, some md players have a mic input, so you can record things like concerts. But I dunno about turning it into mp3s... the software is pretty hardcoded to protect against copyright violations. But Still, I love my md player, the md's do look cool hehe.

Back to paavo's iPod, and music portability in general: I heave my powerbook G4 with me everywhere, w/ graphics tablet and all, so, being the I don't presently drive, and use public transit to get around, I just fire up iTunes, on the bus, and listen to the 18 or so hours of music that I have on there. Of course, 18 hours takes up roughly 1.25 GB on my harddrive, so I would definitely like to invest in an iPod. As I understand, the older model can operate via a USB port, and as far as I know, so can the new one. The thing that sucks, as far as I know, on the old model, and maybe also the new one, is that it overwrites thge iTunes library of whichever computer it's on, so it only works if you operate it off of your own comp. Maybe that's some kind of way of cracking down on file sharing. Personally, I have no idea why that's the case, and I don't really know if it's true.

Yeah, those ipods get lots of really good reviews. Plus burton makes a snowboarding jacket that can interface with it and it has buttons sown into the jacket... pretty cool.

Yeah, those are crazy! I'd buy one just for that. That kind of gets me thinking of how other technology can be integrated into a wearable type of platform. Fossil's got this, which I guess they're trying to break into the portability market with. I think it's kind of dumb, and the specs are pretty weak. Plus for the $295 price tag, you could buy a real PDA. Still though, I think it'd be pretty interesting to see if the whole wearable technology market will really take off, or if spiffy tech peripherals like the iPod will remain awkward boxes, attached to belts with cumbersome clips, and not ever really finding a more suitable home than one's pocket. Hey, this raises kind of an interesting question, or maybe challenge: Would anyone consider making any concept designs for wearable peripherals, like the Burton iPod jacket? I mean, it'd be interesting to see what we could come up with, I just don't know where to make such a post. It's not really a pixel war, it's just kind of an idea. |
