I'm just curious ...

For those of you who have seen my Spectrum Media site (a small design business I've just started) could you tell me if I'm charging too much or too little? I'm not trying to make this a "spam" message or nothin, I'm just tryin to figure out if I should lower or raise the prices on my site ...

I know, I really need to ... not to mention a domain, lol.

Thanks, I really wasn't sure if I was charging to little or too much. Any suggested price ranges for things like logos, banners, cd art and flyers? I'm kinda new to the business side of graphic design as you can tell.

Well, if you are a serious digital artist and a serious business. You will be broke before next week. Those prices are off the charts low.

Now if you are just doing it for spare change from family, friends and the few odd people, its no big deal, but really, they are amazingly low.

Think about this. With those prices, per project, how could you afford to live? You would need to do like 30 logos and 10 flyers just to break even with rent, bills etc... Designers have to eat too, jack those prices up.

http://www.recordinglair.com/graphdes/rates.htm

Here is a page from my old work. We charged similar rates (not comparing to specials they run all the time....) to what Discmakers charged. We had better deals for people who were also duplicating through us (we sent that out to a plant in Chicago for duplication.)

But you get the idea.

Man I don't know about some of those prices. For your website pricing you state you will completely code and create from the artwork on up to the clients whim for $150.00.

Now I'm assuming those are US Dollars correct? And if they are that is way tooooooooooo low.

You should push it up to a good $350.00 at minimum for some basic HTML and have the client provide all the logos and pics to jazz it up. I have a friend who does print media and charges a grip of cash.

I hang out with him from time to time while he works his magic on logos, CD covers and ads. I'll tell you, I have never come to appreciate the work that goes into doing that stuff until I saw my buddy burning the midnight oil and working Photoshop and Illustrator to no end.

Raise up the prices man...extremely! You'll be good to go with the stuff you produce.

Cheers!

and to put it in perspective, those are the prices i charge my friends cd work is a bad example to use tho, a lot of bands are struggling and need a break and it can be a break for a designer as well so you can rationalize cheaper prices. they're also usually fun projects to work on so that helps

Ok, but my main thing is ... I really don't think I'm good enough to ask for that much ...
