I've got a chance to step in and take over a project that another design house is floundering on. It's a e-brochure for a law firm.

Bad form; or good business?

Do I demand full price for the site, or offer a discount because "part of the work is done"? Or do I charge MORE because I have to fix someones fubar?

Hmmmm....

Take it. Not your fault that they are dropping the ball.

Don't take a discount. It will probably take you as long to figure out their coding and setup as it would to just code your own page.

I wouldn't charge more though.

Not bad form at all.

Take your normal fees for a job this size. Hopefully you will be able to strike up a relationship if you do a good job and maybe even get other business on the back of the job you do for them - don't be backwards in coming forward ;)

Yes, Dek, you took the words out of my mouth. I see this kind of stuff in work everyday. Business ethics really only applies when you're considering taking over a business, an aquisition or merger, not just one job. They'll survive

Did you take it, Dan?

I would.

Let us know how it turns out.

I've offered to A) consult on the current project and make recommendations, or B) take over the project completely in a grandiose play at furthering my superhero complex.

We'll see what they say. I'm supposed to have a phone conference with one of the partners later this week.
