I just opened a community based gallery, and I'm not exactly familiar with the copyright laws of multimedia items. For example can I go to clublexus.com and go to their gallery and take things to put on my site, or maybe even go to a wallpaper site and take a few car wallpapers to put onto my site. So basically I don't know what's legal and what's not. Anyhow I was wondering if anyone could give me some idea of what to do and and what not.

Taking graphics from other people's sites is not cool. I don't know whether it is legal or not, but it is definitely frowned upon. If it is an original piece of art or something, then it is definitely illegal. If it's just a publically available picture of a car or something, then it probably isn't illegal, but it's always nice to give the site that you took it from credit for the picture.

In short, don't take stuff from other sites without permission. Especially original work like wallpapers and stuff.

No idea lol. Thats a broad question. The first thing is u cant use them for profit (thats a given). Now for personal use...im not sure if personal use includes websites. Id suggest emailing the sites that have images you would like to use....and/or if you do use the images be kind enough to LINK BACK so they get the credit.

Also...i would suggest trying to be more original with your site. That way visitors get better content (i hate when i go to sites with the same things on it) and you can avoid legal issues. Just a suggestion.

If you are good enough and dirty just erase the copyrights stuff on their graphs yet but I still suggest get permission and you have to note on your site you have taken from whom and whom you are not responsible for it... you are not planning for commerical use blah blah blah......... :D

www.copyright.gov

All creations are copyrighted at the initial design. Meaning, you make something, its copyrighted, no matter if you put the (c) there or not.

Ergo, if you took form other sites that have not given you permission, you're breaking the law. And copyright infringments carry a hefty punishment. (up to 250,000$ USD per infringment and/or 6 months in prison).

Perfect, GFX, you answered my question. Yeh I'm taking pictures and making wallpapers currently myself, however I asked if you could just so I could put more material onto my site, because me alone with school won't crank out much. Thanks for the help everyone. Lol and xfusion, I've actually erased the copyright off something once, don't call the cops now. P.S Anyone wanan do any hard labor wallpaper jobs at 2 dollar a piece? With a minimum of 12 wallpapers per set. Yes I know it's little money, but I don't even work, and my parents dont give me allowance.
