AHHH!!! my cd drive exploded! I was sitting here after restarting, and it booted up and did it's typical cursed spin-up (during which my computer is frozen), and then BAM, and I see a chunk of the cd land right in front of me...and then I look at the drive, and the its is hanging by one corner, and there are cd fragments everywhere. my computer actually moved about have a foot, and my router and dsl modem almost fell off of the case. best damn thing I ever saw. we got it for 25 dollars, so what can you expect...anyway...hah. anyway here's a picture of it after we took it out and shook the cd out...and that cd is my legal backup copy of serious sam......backup copy, yeah.... http://www.sia-cam.com/120948132098472130984uwlkf02983r0823/12e0-82ufoskjdf23098u095/LAKJSOAIUJ2394872309578kuwdf/DSCN1575.jpg anyways...I was amused :D |

Yeah, I had a drive explode on me. It was a some weird 52x one made by some no name company, so I put in a cheap-a$$ quality CD and made spin to it's max. BOOM! Same exact thing as yours. Drivers aren't too expensive these days, just get a replacement. |

Super-expensive drives don't blow up ;) They get worn-out way before that happens ... unless you like tweak an expensive 52x to read at 128x

actually being the cheap parents they are, I'm still using it . but since i'm about to shell out 2 grand for a new computer I guess it's not a big deal. They drive doesn't really need to be replaced I don't think, just the cd in it flew apart. still works alright though.. there was a piece of photo paper (the thick kind) sitting on the table right in front of the computer, and the drive sent a piece of the cd straight through it. glad one of those things didn't hit me in the eye :D. |
