I've always been on a mac and use Extensis Suitcase in OSX. However, I'm starting to use my PC a lot more now, and I'm wondering what PC apps you guys recomend for Font management.

We don't manage them, we just install a couple thousand of them and pick which one we want, whenever we want. ;) Not really an exaggeration... |

I use Fontlister to preview fonts when in Photoshop, or whenever else. Great little proggy, only 108kb, installs fast. Doesn't screw anything up. Doesn't slow anything down. Not much else I can think of. EDIT: Wow, I hit 1000 without even noticing, oh well, time to make a thread about!! Just kidding people.. |

I guess my real question is: Does it matter if I have loads of fonts in the font folder? Or should I keep my new fonts in a sep. folder somewhere, and have another app. manage them. Also...does anyone know if there is a way to sep. fonts into groups. I have a lot of pixel fonts that I want to keep together...Maybe not possible..dunno. |

I have everything sitting in my Fonts folder with the names of around 200 of them memorized; no need for a font management app for me. I haven't noticed any slow down whatsoever, or maybe I need another 1000 fonts to notice. :p |

It's completely safe to keep them all in the fonts folder, I have about 250-ish... works just as if I had 10.

Consider this: Layer Style presets, Custom Shapes, Gradient presets, Brushes, Actions, Swatch sets and ALL active fonts are loaded into RAM when you launch Photoshop. The more of these you load, the less RAM available to Photoshop. Loading lots of Layer Style presets can put a serious hurting on optimal Photoshop performance, with bargeloads of fonts a close second. The smartest workflow is to pare the above items down to include ONLY the the items you use EVERY time you work in Photoshop. Get comfy with the Presets Manager and saved Workspace settings. But hey, you don't have to listen to me. If you want to load 1000 fonts everytime you launch Photoshop, be my guest... |

Yes it definitely does slow everything down like Utopian said. My photoshop takes a long time to load because of all the fonts. There's a font manager that came with Corel Draw called Bitstream font navigator, but it sucks so I don't use it. I'm sure there are other font managers for windows out there... I just don't know too many people that use them. Most PC users seem to take Moochan's point of view... Whereas on the Mac you'll have the nice looking font book with Panther. |
