Just downloaded an watched the 25 minute, 600mb trailer for HL2. Sheesh. The've been working very hard on this. No wonder it's taken close to 5 years to finish the game. Gameplay looks to as immersive as the original Half-Life and the graphics are far more stunning than anything out today.

Possibly could be a better game to play than Doom3. Too bad I will definatly have to perform some system upgrades to play it.

The thing that sucks is you need a pretty decent machine and card to play those games well at full resolution, bit depth, and sound quality. I will have to check that out though. Another game I was really impressed with - graphically, is Unreal2. Man that is some fine work.

Hey Axiom, you have a link to that download? or some screenshots?

Half-Life 2 looks freakin' amazing. Screw Doom III man... Actually I will play both, but Half-Life 2 looks like more fun. Doom III looks more atmospheric and scary I guess.

The physics is what is most impressive to me about Half-Life 2. I watched like 10 different gameplay movies on GameSpot and it's amazing. Everything behaves just like the real world.

I saw Gordon run into a room, close the door, then push a desk in front of it to bar the door. The soldiers eventually blew open the door, which flung the desk across the room and smashed into the opposing wall.

In another scene Gordon was on a roof looking down on about 8 guys. Instead of going down and fighting them, he shot a wire that was holding back a large steel girder. It swung down on a couple more wires, killing half of the guys. Then Gordon put an explosive under a large dumpster or railway car that was on the roof. The explosion made the big dumpster thing fall off the roof and crush the remaining bad guys. And all that happened in real time. Not scripted. One level even had a huge Plinko board, which they used to show a bunch of barrels rolling down it, all behaving perfectly.

It's going to be great. Hopefully I will have enough money for a new computer by the time it comes out.

yeah i was saying doom III was going to be the best game of the year until i watched the half-life 2 videos. absolutly amazing. Physics system is the best ever and the graphics are truly great. Doom III will defiently scare you but it will just be a flashy fps with nothing more to add except an atmosphere. It will still be great game but cant compare to half life.

ftp://www.ozfiles.net//demos/Trailers/hl2_gameplay_improved_gsi.zip link for the video 600mbs so it will take some time.

I've never been really truly impressed with id games except for their graphics. they might as well just make game engines, and sell them to other people to make the actual games.

I've got that 600mb movie. HL2 is definately on my "get" list. I'd be really surprised if they got it out before October like they say, though. You can drive cars! You're partner is a chick! She's got boobs! You can throw things at people! WOOOHOO!

sorry, I waited until 3am to download from gamespy. There was no wait, but it was a weeknight, so that may have something to do with it.

But yes, Doom III will be pretty. And will be fun to play a space marine again. But for gameplay, Half Life 2 is probably going to take the cake this year. The actual release date, according to pc gamer, is september 5, 2003.

Considering how long ValvE has been working on the game, I can see it coming down to the wire. Rest assured....the crowbar is back.

Also, if you get the movie, you will notice that it's not scripted. It's real-time and the AI determines the best way to help/kill you.

I doubt they will release on that date. The first half-life was delayed forever. And it was worth it. I'm sure they aren't going to push it out the door non-perfect just to make that release date.

It's possible though. Considering they have been working on the game since 98 or so. According to the movie, it's near perfect now. I've started saving up for a new video card already
