Has anyone tried the mozilla based browser Firebird (recently renamed from Phoenix) yet? I downloaded it this afternoon because I wanted to test some sites in netscape/mozilla without downloading the behemoth browsers themselves. Firebird uses Mozilla to render its pages, but doesn't include all the crap that comes with Netscape like the news reader, email client, web page creator, chat program, winamp, and whatever else comes with Netscape these days. It is only a 6.8 megabyte download, which is pretty impressive considering Netscape is like 45 megs or something the last time I looked. It is a small, fast browser. About as fast as Opera I would say. Supports tabbed browsing, built-in google search at the top of the browser, etc. I've been pretty impressed with it so far. If it weren't for Opera, this would definitely be my browser of choice. You can also download a lot of extensions (plug-ins) which add more functionality, like mouse gestures which were taken from Opera. It's definitely worth checking out if you'd like to test your pages in Mozilla without messing with Netscape. Download and more information: http://texturizer.net/firebird/index.html Extensions download page: http://texturizer.net/firebird/extensions.html Extensions I have like/use: Mouse gesture/mouse rocker navigation: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/marc.boullet/ext/extensions-en.html AdBlocker: http://adblock.mozdev.org/ StumbleUpon (just trying this out. don't know how good it works yet): http://www.stumbleupon.com/ RadialContext (good alternative to mouse gestures if you don't like having to remember what all the gestures do): http://www.gamemakers.de/mozilla/radialcontext/ |

pretty nice browser there deker. But like you i'll be sticking to opera. Btw, why were those mouse gestures removed from version 7 of opera, I really liked those. Is there any way to get them back? |

Mouse gestures are still in Opera. They still worked when I installed it... Look under Preferences > Mouse and Keyboard and check Enable Mouse Gestures if it isn't clicked. Firebird actually has more gestures than Opera though. I also like the mouse rocking way of doing it. Right click, left click while still holding down the right button. Then release both to go back. Do the opposite to go forward. It's real easy to just kinda rock your fingers back and forth across the mouse to make it work. But the regular right click and drag left is still great. |

different mouse movements while holding a button result in something happening...errr for example in opera, when you hold the right mouse button and move the mouse to the left you will go back a page. If you move the mouse down, a new window will pop up. Stuff like that. :D |
