I see alot of forums around now and they seem to all be ez board...but anyways im thinking about taking on a project for my neighborhood to create a forum for the members and i was wondering what all goes into making a forum? it seems to me it should just take some tables and cgi and of coarse a little more complex forms and what not with teh buttons but is there more to it then that? im assuming this forum is ez board so whats so special about ez board that no one else can do themselves including web designers who may have ez boards on their sites like this? any information on this issue will be appreciated

Time. It would take an awful lot of time and effort to create your own board. It's easier just to pay some cash. Don't forget that there is a heck of a lot of scripting.... and i thought my shoutbox was bad

This is not ezboard, it's vBulletin. And it's quite complex. download one of the free forum packages like phpbb and look at the code. Plus there is no point in re-inventing the wheel. it's a lot easier to install a pre-made script than to write your own for everything. |

I've set up a few phpBB forums and they are quite complex. If you were going to make something as big as this you would spend a lot of time, plus constant security updating. If you dont want to buy a forum, then definitely phpBB would be the way to go. They are easy to set up and dont take up a lot of space. A small - medium sized forum will be under 20 megs without any compression. www.phpBB.com |

alright thnx for that info that was kinda the idea i had about forums....is there a kind that i can just buy teh script to or something of the sort rather then a monthly/yearly fee? i could really use a forum for the site im creating right now and im sure it would come in handy in later ones....just those damn fees get in the way of having a useful forum cause you never stop the payments.
