i hate those people that make playing video games look gay. THere was a group of juniors in the library w/ their game boys adv/sp all hooked up and crap, then they were doing like sign language code **** to eachother from opposite sides to tell them they were ready to start again. blah

In my opinion anyone who enjoy playing game as a past time can be considered as a gamer... Why should you need to play 20 h (way to much) a week to be considedred a gamer? Even if you play golf only once per month you can call youself a golfer... why should it be diferent for computer or consioe games? There is sadly too much people who paly to much... they have no life.... |

Hey, hey..Michael..Those people who play games like EverCrack are only addicted to it, that's it! A gamer is someone who plays a lot of video games or plays a few a lot. |

Well before I read Delisk's post, when I pictured "Gamer", I imagined the person who gets home from school/work and plays until bedtime. He poses a good argument, and he used golf....that gives him a "+" in my book.

A gamer is someone who is genuinely passionate about the games that they play. They don't have to play every type of game. All that i play is fps pretty much. But i respect games as if they were a form of speech and art. It takes a group of people years to develop and perfect(sometimes) an adventure that draws you into its world and grasps you. Half-Life = cinematic quality, Wolfenstein = online comraderie. Yes, a gamer is someone who is interested in the topic and cares about how exactly such a thing is executed and designed. They don't necessarily have to play frequently, but they have to be somewhat active in "gamer politics". When a bunch of politicians call your favorite game, something you adore and respect, a steaming pile of horse pucky because its violence "trains" minors to shoot a gun and kill people, a true gamer doesn't stand by as a passive person. He takes action to defend his passion. How in the hell does pointing and clicking with a mouse "simulate" killing? Killing is extremely stressful and traumatic, i'm pretty sure i couldn't do it in real life, even if i do "kill with impunity" in the blink of an eye. Games are not real. They are a form of entertainment and potential art. And for those of you who do not think that games are art on this forum....what do they use to do static textures? Photoshop. What do they use to render DE-Dust and your character models? 3dsmax. Take a look at the new adventure games and tell me if it's an art form or not. These programs were built for rendering and image editing. We just choose to use them for different purposes. So the next time you think, gamers have no life and games shouldn't exist while you're making your latest portfolio piece in photoshop 7, think about how it was the gamer who got you there in the first place. Without the gamer, you might not even have photoshop. Try making your masterpiece in MSPaint and see how it comes out.

Woahhh, ease up young blood. Im fairly sure PS would be here today without games. There is such a thing out there called Print Media. Its been around a little longer then video games. I think the eyestrain you got from typing that huge chunk of text affected your arguement. I think your a little too wound up in the video game world dude. :ccol: |

a gamer is someone who not only plays the game a lot but gets into the community and into the clans and such. i play medal of honor: allied assault on a team and we even have 2 cops playing with us. a lot of gamers use voice comm software where you can actually hear the people you're playing with. this is just another step to getting more involved with a game. now you feel more attached to the people you are playing with and you meet people that way. i dunno...a gamer to me is someone who really gets involved in the gaming community not just the game itself. |

I think you have it a little backwards Psycho, there wouldn't be games if there wasn't 3DSMax and Photoshop. And there are a ton of other uses for those programs other than games. But I do agree with you about games being an art form. And I do get really tired of people saying people that are interested in games have "no life". What exactly is "having a life" anyway? Games are something that a lot of people really enjoy. It makes them happy. So they play them. How is that bad? Lots of other people are happy by going out to a bar and getting drunk and acting like a moron. Or doing drugs to "expand their minds". I personally think those types of people have "no life". But I don't go around telling everyone that drinks a beer that they are stupid and pitiful all the time and don't have a life. Gaming is just as valid a hobby as drinking or watching sports on TV or making web sites or chatting online or playing sports or anything else people like to do to relax. For some reason people just can't accept that though. Have to make fun of them and call them nerds and pity them for "not having a life". Psh. |
