Sheesh.... I can't figure out why so many can't afford $10 or less a month for hosting - I have 500 megs of space, multiple Domain names, unlimited subdomains, 20 gigs of bandwidth. and no ads.... I think for 6$ you can get half that. You could spend that at the pub on a drink, and no ads.... I realise free hosting is great, but ads and you get so little bandwidth its almost not worth it.
