The standard size is : 2 inche by 3,5 inch. There is no reason to choose another format, stay in this format... For the design take a look at these article from Chuck Green http://www.ideabook.com/bizcard.htm http://www.ideabook.com/rethink/recards.htm Creating both of them in Illustrator should not be a problem, in fact it should help you in you design process... Make sure you set the crop mark for both of them and talk to you printer about using this format... Fianaly, if you wish to save money, and still want color card, hve oneside printed in CMYK and the other in Grayscale... Hope this help you! |

Also 3 or less spot colors can save you money as well. Using a vector based program will make the cards come out very nice! I have had issues in the past with using PS for images and they got a bit of scraggly edges versus the text from Illustrator which came out perfect. The client was bit teaved about it.

you have to make them about an inche wider and higher than what the actual size is.. it has something to do with how they cut them out.

NO. For a full bleed image, no more than 1/8" is necessary. I know of very few people who do full-bleed images on their cards, anyway. Have a look at the template linked above. |

Yeah, but I'll bet you don't make each card 4.5" X 3" before trim, Chris.
