Is anyone else getting sick of all the "cool" designs out there?

I'm basically referring to everything on these pages...

Especially the "Presstube" and "We Work for Them" ones. I think many of these designers are totally over-rated. Or maybe I just don't "get it". I mean they just look like totally random scribbles! It looks like they spent about 4 minutes on them. But they are considered some of the best designers around and make a ridiculous amount of money. Even though all of their designs look exactly the same. Blah. I must just not be hip enough to understand all this arty garbage. It seems like the "better" of a designer you are supposed to be, the less anything you do makes sense.

Maybe I should try some scribbles. If it didn't make me rich, at least it would upset Deker.

I really don't get it either. I'm sure it is more fun than making trophies. (I've made trophies before):D :D

I try not to follow .. Just do what I think looks best. My latest design was based on something I've posted here bout 2 years ago(roughly) .. And yes.. I'm sick of those trendy cool designs sometimes. Which is why I don't visit them that often.

Those I'd think are actual artists are :

yes, those links sidez posted are good. they actually have talent and do something that makes sense. not just random squiggles or random circles or random triangles or random pictures with repeating pixels or random phrases that don't make any sense or random crap rendered in 3d studio max. it seems to me that the more popular a designer is, the more it looks like every other popular designers work, and the more random it looks.

the little guys seem to be more talented most of the time. actually doing something that makes sense and shows talent.

but brian taylor of www.rustboy.com is still the best artist in the world as far as i'm concerned.

I think the real artists are people like this
http://www.conceptart.org/

At the moment I got this thing that keeps me away of doing those "modern" designs and it's forcing me to do stuff a little more traditional like painting in photoshop and drawing and doing tiles at http://tiles.ice.org (you should try this it rocks ^^).
I think it was the work of paavo, eyewoo and some others on this forum, and the work on other forums that made me go this way.

I admit than the two first link presented by deker are boring, there is no design in them...

But you have to admit one thing : simple load faster and put the atention on the subject and not on the interface...

But he could have add a few design elementa to make it more apeling to the eye...

A good exemple of a nice simplicity is this link
http://moderna.org/lookatme/pages/index/211-240.html

The interface is simple... yet very nice!

deker's talking about the designs ON the page, not the layout design. :p

I see your point dek....although some of those pics are quite graphic and do get across a message of some sort, which of course is the target for a graphic designer. Now what i cant stand are the crappy 3D spikes with barcodes and 'initiating' text going across...the trendwhore stuff. The stuff sidez posted is excellent, very talented stuff.

They are considered some of the best designers around and make a ridiculous amount of money because they have proven time and again that they can make the art that most of you on this forum would like to see (probably with no problem). It's just that they have chosen to experiment and have gone a bit abstract doing so.
