There are only approximately 3 people on this forum that do not violently despise macintoshes, so you should probably ask this question to a select few rather than a blanket question to the whole forum so that you don't start yet another flame war. From what I hear, the iMacs are great, and well worth the money. CyblingBoy here on the forum just bought one, so I'm sure he will have some advice. I've never owned one, but I would like to some day, and I would most likely get an iMac as well. Though I just read on news.com today that they are dropping the prices on the iBooks by $200, which means you can get one for less than 1,000 USD now. Which is quite cheap. But don't listen to all that BS about their not being enough software for them or being incompatible or about their megahertz not being as high as a PCs. There are many other features that will make it well worth your money.

I'm okay with different O/Ses and such until the Unix people go on and say that everything else sucks.

Macs are great. My cousin in California works on one so every Christmas and Thanksgiving I get stories about "Tha Makk". From what I hear its a kickarse machine.
