As long as there is information and something to be online, it'll stay. It'll probably become something more advanced in the future.

the internet or some form of it will always be here. it will probably eventually be completely wireless. and everything little device will be connected. like every watch will be connected to the atomic clock, so everyone will always have the exact same time.

The internet in its current form will be around for a while longer. However, it will morph into a more television-like experience in 20-30 years after very fast broadband becomes ubiquitous to every home in the country. Though at that point, the actual "internet" we use today will be severly outdated, and we will probably have moved on to the more recent "internet 2" that some government and universities currently use, or perhaps an internet 3. Basically, the way I see it. The internet will become like satellite television. Only with hundreds of thousands of channels/sites that have their own content in a much more animated form than it is today. Think of a modern day TV infomercial except with a "click here to buy" button on it. That is the internet of the future that I forsee. What we know of as television/cable will be the internet, and the internet will be our TV. You will tune into ABC not on channel 12 (or whatever), but abc.com. Television programs will still be made, but you will be able to watch them at your leisure at any time of the day. Don't expect to be able to record them, though. And you will definitely be forced to watch commercials. Since all businesses will be forced to be online to make money, just about everybody will be working for the "web" in some capacity. Whether they are actually creating content or making products. All jobs will eventually be tied to it. Lots of things are going to merge together eventually. Mainly as a means of economic survival in the rapidly changing, highly technical time of the near future. Web browsers like we are using now will be relics of the past. Kinda like telnet. They will still be in operation, but don't expect to see any Microsoft Internet Explorer programs out at that point. Everything we are used to now will be so outdated that only homebrew/open source applications will be made to continue on the way the internet currently is. |

Too funny, I posted this with tongue in cheek I suppose, just being an idiot. But seeing as the responses that it got, I look now and find it to be a valid question. I think its interesting to see how far or where the internet goes in direction. We all know the "success" of web tv.. Im curious to find out what will be next. As well, I dont want to spawn any talks about |

They will never stop piracy. No matter how smart the guys are trying to lock down the software or media, there will always be a smarter hacker out there who breaks it. There is probably some law about it. You know, like Newton's Law or something. If there isn't a law about it, I will call it Rose's Law from now on. Please make a note of it.
