Delisk, It all depends on what YOU believe. Nobody in this forum can do it for you. Also, it depends on your income. If you're loaded, refuse away, my friend. If you're starving, things are a little more complicated. For example: I don't think anyone should tell me what I put in my body (be it smoke, alcohol or drugs) is right or wrong. So, I'd build it. Even though I quit smoking 3 yrs ago, I think smokers are people too. I'm also building a sign for a strip club. But, I also design banners for churches. My take on racism? If you do any kind of political ads - you're probably supporting a racist. I won't design for politicians. I believe you have the right to your own opinion, so if you think you can stop some kid from getting addicted to cigarettes, go with it. Or, you could take the job, donate all of your proceeds to the American Lung Association. BOTTOM LINE: whatever helps ya sleep at night. |

That is truly a good question. If you don't want to do work for companys that use third world countries for labor, you would be surprised what that would limit you to. Just start looking at labels, and you'll quickly realize that alot of them are made in countries where they can pay 25 cents an hour for labor. Not just shoes, clothing, and electronics (like the the4man said), but lots of other things are also made this way. Even if they aren't made there, pieces of it may have been made there, and then put together in the US. As far as tobacco, yes, it does kill thousands of people every year, but the tobacco company does not force you to buy their product. Yes, it is addicting, but unless you started smoking back in the day before the surgeons general warning was put on the packs (and the consumer didn't know it was addictive), you know that its not good for you, and you can choose not to buy their product. So I probably would do something for them. I wouldn't however work on anything for any group that promotes hatred of other races, or something I don't believe in myself personally, like anti-abortion groups. If you are having any doubts about working on a project for someone, its probably a good indication that your morals or ethics don't fit with the particular company, and you probably shouldn't do it.
