thanks everybody! - I found most of your replies very useful. Basically, the site is a portfolio site. I'm making it extremely simple, clean and professional. Barely any bells and whistles. (if any) Once I start getting into designing sites for people, then I'll deal with compliance, browser and broadband issues. And, i hate to say it to all you Flash fans - I'm not even going to bother. I like a few things flash has to offer, but mostly, I don't find it neccesar- aw, hell - I gotta go - more later, most of all, though - thanks! gg |

where was I? basically, I was rambling on about me not adding bells and whistles - and I consider flash a bell and a whistle, so I'm not messing with it - yet. What about web design apps? What do you all use? I've been using BBEdit 6.0 and GoLive 4's FTP feature to upload on my mac, but I really like Smart FTP on Windows. Can anyone recommend any particular software? |

I use Dreamweaver. It's all you really need. It has everything imaginable. But I still use Bulletproof FTP for ftping stuff. Mainly because I paid for it, and also because I can't figure out how to make the dreamweaver ftp thing work the way i really want it to.

Yup i agree! One question tho, do you rally care about netscape users? Oh, are they that many? I dont have any idea but i think it would be better if one's site can be viewable without any problems in any browser. |

screw netscape.. Dreamweaver, Photoshop (did I even have to say it?), and CuteFTP (sounds like a girly name, but its worked the best for me, and I tried like 10 different FTP programs before I finally settled) I agree, Flash is probably a "bell and whistle" but macromedia claims that some 95% of people can view flash, so I think it shouldn't be totally ignored. I wish I could say screw dial-up, but a majority of people who go to sites I made were all dial-up. (95% used IE, 3% netscape, 2% Opera [just on my sites]) |
