Hi Everyone - I just found this website & love it! Question is... There's a good chance I'll soon become the head designer for an entertainment newspaper & I was just wondering if anyone here has any tips or suggestions on getting the most out of my color designs, via Photoshop or Quark settings which are the 2 main programs I'll be using. I know in the past I've had some real nightmares pop up with newsprint, so any help I can get would be greatly appreciated before I hit that brick wall head on again! Thanks, mOOndog |

RIGHT NOW....go buy the book "Real World Photoshop" by Bruce Fraser and David Blatner. The link is for the latest version; you can also find earlier versions at Amazon, for a little less money, of course. It's the single best source for answering the many questions you're facing now, and will be sure to get you out of jams, and just possibly make you the office hero at your job. You'll find it to be the best US$35.00 you've ever spent on a book, guaranteed. Keep in mind, this is NOT for the timid, nor for someone who doesn't already know their way around Photoshop well. It's not in any way a special effects books like the "WOW!" series. This is a book full of power-user production techniques. |

As well, I'll follow up Utopian23's post. "Real World PS" is a terrific reference book. I would also consider purchasing "Print Publishing - A Hayden Shop Manual" By Donnie O'Quinn. This is also a fantastic reference book for eveything to do with print. Right now it is my bible. But of course there are many amazing books out there, browse through a few at Chapters or something. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index%3Dbooks%26field-author%3DO%27Quinn%2C%20Donnie/ref%3Dpd%5Fsimart%5Fdetail/102-8344243-5640159 Sorry bout the pathetic link, too lazy to make it better |
