Question The Silhouette Effect?

Hi guys, thanks for answering my last question, now I have just one more. Does anyone know how to achieve the silhouette effect that is used on these websites?

http://www.3run.co.uk/

I know how to create a normal silhouette but the image just comes out completely black, I don't know how to do it so that detail comes through on the clothes and face.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

Try a Threshold Adjustment Layer.

you will probably actually have to trace something to isolate if its not shot on greenscreen initially. for something like the iPod commercial effect that combined with a threshold adjustment layer will give you the general idea. take a look around for some tutorials on that effect (iPod commercial), there'll probably be mostly after effects but the idea is exactly the same.
