Mac G4

I'm thinking about buying a new computer as my 800mhz, gforce3, 40gig hd, 256mb rdram is not cutting it any more. I've done a little research on dell and gateway and they've just gone down the craper over the last few years. Now my roommate has a G4 and I really love the layout of it and I was just wondering what you guys think about the G4 or any other pc dealers. Now If I go with the g4 this is what the specs would be.

Power Mac G4 Z05N 1-3 days Remove $3,748.00 $3,748.00
Mac OS - U.S. English 065-3126

512MB PC2700 DDR SDRAM - 1 DIMM 065-3704

56K internal modem 065-3138

36GB Ultra160 SCSI - Dual card 065-3387

Power Mac G4 Dual 1.25GHz w/167MHz system bus 065-3854

Ultra SCSI PCI card & cable adapter 065-3232

Optical 2 - None 065-3389

NVIDIA GeForce4 Titanium dual-display w/128MB DDR 065-3228

Optical 1 - Apple SuperDrive 065-3140

Apple Pro Keyboard - U.S. English 065-3222

Accessory kit 065-3125

P.S. I'm to lazy to build my own.

Lookin' good. You're a couple weeks ahead of me, but I'm getting pretty much the same system.

My advice: Skip the SCSI, get a zip drive put in.

Sounds great venom, you really cannot go wrong with this beautiful machine. It's one of these things that will still be stunningly advanced around 5 years down the line...look into getting one of eBay though...you never know..

If you have $3,748.00 that you want to spend on a mac. By all means do so.

Just know that a pc of similar performance would be nearly half that cost. Plus you have to re-buy any software, such as photoshop, over again.

Does that pricetag not include a monitor?

I'm not knocking the computer. Sounds good. Its just so....expensive!

The scsi stuff would be expensive on either platform though.

I'd rather have 2 systems than just 1. Especially if 1 is a PC and another is a Mac

since the processor is a mac, its not really a 1.25Ghz...compared to like a 1.2Ghz AMD processor that would only be about 800-900Mhz...

otherwise its a pretty good PC, nice and easy to use, stable as a mountain goat...

You guys and your megahertz. gees. give it a rest.

That is a sweet system. But I'm kinda like sidez, I would probably buy a nice iMac for $2,000, then buy a really nice PC with the other $1,800. That would be nice.

Also, even if you pirate software, I understand it is not so easily available on the Mac. So you might just have to buy some of it...

Yes. Its true. I wish you could get free mac editions after already buying a pc version, but that is not the case. You will have to buy all your software over again.

I think some places will allow you to buy an upgrade to the mac edition. So at least you wouldn't have to pay full price.

Custom pc places:

www.hypersonicpc.com
www.alienware.com
www.falcon-nw.com
www.geekgeek.com
www.ibuypower.com
www.voodoopc.com

How does them getting good reviews have any thing to do with the site looking like alienware?
