I give it a 4 out of 5 because it could use some fine tuning. The wire on your new plug is touching the screen and i think it would look nicer if it weren't. The wires could be a little sharper and smoother around the bends, also. Other than that, I think it's an interesting concept, and you're really making some progress! it's kind of hard to rate a GUI when none of the navigation and text and all that is there yet... so repost when you get closer to being done.
Pretty neato! That audio plug/jack looks great... did you create that from scratch in PS? If so, nice work!

wires look very smooth now good job, but how about texturing the whole thing
just a little example of my first interface
http://listen.to/sofaweb
It was pretty good for a first interface i think.
I screwed on the buttons and the lack of small details(like wires and stuff)
But still the texturing makes it kinda neat (and of course the speaker :))

I don't think I agree with the texturing.
Texturing would probably ruin it. Texturing often adds a dull-dreary look to it. I'm not saying that's always the case, but in this case it just wouldn't fit.
I'd say it's coming along nicely.....I'd say it looks a helluva lot better than it did 3-4 days ago.
And about the buttons.....I'd put them on that bottom part with a pillow emboss of the same color so it looks like they are embedded in the interface.
If you're not sure on how to do this, post back.

The only problem I have with it is the wires still. They are too blurry compared to the other stuff. Unsharp mask or something? Maybe I'm just being picky, use your own judgement. :)

I like it, especially the plug part.
Usually I don't care much for this type of interfaces, but it's looks nice.
When I see a image like this, I want to animate it, make the plug go in. It would be great in Flash or Director, but you would probably have to get rid of a lot of details.

yeah i would give a rating of 3.5 for the interface, which is a good design and all, i agree that the wires look a but too blurred, but that is going critical for if you aimaing for 4.9 or 5. But add some buttons and the mark will go higher.
But good work keep it up man.

yeah i want it to have it go in when u click on it and it will open the interface which will have a steel-door like thing on it. problem is i have no idea how to do this.
i dont know what u mean by the wires look blurry, all i did to make them was stroke>plastic wrap> bevel
what is unsharp mask??
i really like the gray one but the blue does look a little odd. i would redo it but i hate the pen tool and i can't use it worth a lick
im going to upload another picture with the steel door on top of the interface to show you what i mean.. if i cant figure out how to animate it to open when the plug is clicked ill just scrap it.

i think its kind of boring.
missing something.
psnewb
04-14-2001, 07:39 PM
yeah its missing the buttons/text :D
can someone give me links to a few tutorials on how to slice up images and place them on a table. please make sure they are easy to follow, i dont know any html. i have front page2k but i dont know how to use it, it seems to piss me off everytime i load it
and if you can, i would like some tutorials on how i can make the plug go into the interface, which in turn opens the steel doors. i would like the tutorials to be for imageready, OR flash5. WHICHEVER IS EASIER. i dont care how long it takes to load because this is for school and schools have like a t1 or something :D

Well the tuitorial would have to be basically tuned to you in particular, and it would take some time.
If I get a little extra time this weekend (Sunday), then I'll attempt to get it figured out in Flash (much easier that way)
There are a TON of tuts on Flash online, do a seach and stand back !
mattboy_slim
04-14-2001, 10:02 PM
Yeah, but if you've never used Flash before, those tuitorals are absolutely ****in' worthless.
I attempted to follow them, and even though they SAY they are beginner tuitorals, they didn't have details, they just said "Insert a Keyframe on Frame 1, then insert a keyframe on frame 40, then insert a motion tween..........................My 1st week, I could not for the life of me figure out what in the hell they were talking about.
Finally I realized that Flash has tuitorials included with it, and that got me started out well.

Unlike alot of software manufactures Macromedia packs ALL its products with "EASY TO USE" "basic" information......only its hidden (not really, but nobody looks in the help files cuz most of em SUCK! )
Look under the help menu, ALL macromedia products have REALLY good help files in the form of offline html tutorial "type" pages
Flash, or imageready its up to you. Its definatly easier to use flash tweening for this, but its entirely possible to do it with ImageReady and JavaScript.

04-14-2001, 11:26 PM
Hahahah........my mom would kick my ass if she knew I talked like that.
yeah, I got the PSD files from him, so I'm working on doing the Flash......prob work on it tomorrow pending I don't have too many Easter dinners to go to.
I agree with you guys, the tuts online are sometimes not the best.
People are designers or coders and writing "manuels/tutorials" can be hard. But EVERYBODY should open their manuel ( if they bought a copy of the software ) and learn and/or use the files under "help" like tornupinside said.

yeah that would be fine and dandy if i was just doing this for fun but this is a project and i have a deadline which means i gotta do this FAST. once i am through with school i can spend all summer learning the rest and i can take web/graphic design classes next year, but for now i just have to get it done and quick

the tutorial wont help me worth jack because i tried importing my photoshop image and in flash it looks like crap.
i am going to try to use imageready to do all of it
I don't think it will look much better in Imageready.
Certain things to know as compressing and vector vs. raster are design basics,
that should be learned before making complex projects.

yeah yeah, i scrapped the plug it was just TOO damn hard. i made a door over the screen instead.
is there any way to put sound for rollovers in imageready?
how do you set up a table once you have all your images sliced?
someone help me!!!!
Imageready does not do sound.
Why are you so crazy about Imageready ?
If you have Flash and Photoshop, you've set. I understand you're on a tight deadline, but "Rome was not built in a day". How long did you have to make this project ?
I'm sorry, but your whole take on learning and design seems wrong. We all have to learn these things and there are no magic button that will do these things for you. What kind of class is this for anyway ? Photoshop, Flash, Interface design or other ?
You CAN animmate the plug in Flash, but if you don't want to learn it ( the hard way ) you can use your doors instead.
There are lots of sites on HTML ( tables )
