Aahhh Ax, I don't think IIS is the absolute best, I just like to argue for the simple sake of arguing for the most part.

Wallus, just place the .htaccess file in the directory where the index.shtml file is.

so what would that whole thing say?? i mean, if i did that would it screw up stuff in the .htaccess that's farther back?? i don't want to mess everything up.

No, you wouldn't screw up anything as the .htaccess file in the current directory takes precedent over .htaccess files in other directories above the current one. Make sense?
