Those pesky kids

Afetr reading bobs php page include tutorial i decided to have a a go at it but when i tried it didnt work:( . when i named the main page index.php it wouldnt load in the webbrowser it opened in microsoft home publishing and came up with an error message. why is this?

once when i got this book about flash it had a cd with all the flas to look at and it had a mysql flash message board. but to view it you had to install mysql. is this the same with php?

php is server side. Not client side. If your webserver is set up correctly, you shouldnt have any problems.

But, if you are doing this locally on your personal machine and not your webserver, yes, you need to have php and a webserver installed. the webserver has to support php as well.
