SSI or SSL

sorry this question is kinda newbish, I found this great hosting company and I was looking at a list of software they support and the level I wanted to get hosted did not have SSL but it did have SSI I just wanted to know the difference, I do know SSI is server side include but I forgot what SSL is, please help

SSL is a secure certificate for creating secure, encrypted connections to the server. Mostly for ecommerce sites. If you aren't going to do an ecommerce site, you probably don't need it.

SSI = server side includes (shtml, asp, php etc)
SSL= secure socket layer (ecom support)
